As even Pew itself notes in this article, polls change pretty quickly. However when ever looking at poll results one has to consider many things, most importantly how the polls are conducted. For example, this poll polled "1,501 adults, 18 years of age or older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia (375 respondents were interviewed on a landline telephone, and 1,126 were interviewed on a cell phone, including 693 who had no landline telephone)." Politically the poll represents Republicans/Lean Rep: 630 (326/304); Democrat/Lean Dem: 771(369/402). Don't ask me why those numbers are off an even 100. Would appear Pew has already one mistake in their poll.

Many pollsters that do phone polling conduct it via random digit dialing. That means they should theoretically get a pretty representative sample, but the problem is what pollsters call "nonresponse bias". Some people just don't answer the phone or are willing to take the time to answer questions. Then there is the issue of who will actually turn up to vote. It's one thing to tell the pollster you intend to vote and another to actually show up at the polls.

Tomorrow's special election in Georgia should give a better view of exactly where Democrats stand. If Ossoff wins outright then it will mean money well spent on the part of Democrats and they can celebrate. If he is in a runoff though it will be like a soccer team that's ahead early in the game and then ends up in a tie. For that team the tie is like a loss. Winning outright will be a lot more difficult for Ossoff in a runoff.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty percent (50%) disapprove.

Rasmussen surveys "likely voters" in their daily approval polls. They argue it gives them a more accurate reading of the actual voting electorate -- and certainly a more accurate one than polling firms that test all adults. Rasmussen used an automated voice (as opposed to a real, live person) to conduct their polls. They are, therefore, barred by law from contacting people on cell phones. People who only use cell phones tend to be younger and more diverse than those who have landlines. And younger, more diverse voters have heavily favored Democrats in recent elections, but do not necessarily show up to vote.
