Just to let you know players that are going to play d3 do not commit. Also they do not sign a letter of intent either. They do get to sign a NCAA provided, non-binding celebratory signing form. Only time they are commutes to a d3 school is when they send their deposit to the school just like anyone else that is going there.

Also there are no athletic scholarships at the d3 level. So that means there is no guarantee that player will make the team.
It’s great to see players go on to play college soccer at any level. I think the point is there is a difference from d3 athletics and d1 athletics.

        Andrew Kovacs (D), Bolts, WPI
        Michael Balleani (F), Bolts, Brown
        Camron Lawrence (M/F), Bolts, Bryant
        Ludovico Rollo (D), Bolts, Harvard
Will Bavsier (M), Bolts, Colorado College
Mike Ciano (D), Bolts, Springfield College
        Henning Dierks (F), Bolts, Brandeis
        Christian Godinho (B/M), Bolts, Bryant
        Lyndon Hu (M), Bolts, Chicago
        Seth Massotti (M/F), Bolts, Waynesburg
        Brendan McCarthy (GK), Bolts, Colby
        Colby Meyer (F), Bolts, Stonehill
        Everett Upton (M/F), Bolts, Assumption
        Ben Verner (F), Bolts, Tufts
        Owen Denby (M), Bolts, Tufts
        John Jalbert (M), Bolts, WPI
        Just a few questions:
How many teams do the bolts have at this age group? Don’t they have a mls academy team? If so you would think hope a good majority of those players go on to play college soccer? So I would assume this list would be bigger. The list of colleges here aren’t that great. Do the bolts put on their web site come here and you can get into wpi or tufts? Great school but players aren’t going there for the soccer.

No clue about what the Bolts have on their website. Does Commonwealth FC have an MLS academy?

You obviously don't understand the value of a "tip" in D3 recruiting.

While your kid will sit around nervously rocking in the fetal position hoping beyond hope to be admitted to Chicago, or Colby, or Tufts, "committed" or "tip" players already know they are virtually guaranteed admission.

University of Chicago: 6% acceptance rate

            Colby College: 9% acceptance rate

            Tufts University: 15% acceptance rate

Keep downplaying D3 soccer all you want, you just don't understand the game.

This Mark Smith gentleman sounds like a real winner. How does someone like him be allowed to be in charge of an entire town program? Sounds from this letter that he runs a dirty for profit program.

The fact that this guy promoted CFC, America FC and Mass City as good options in the area shows how little he actually knows about the game. Those teams all play at Championship or lower level leagues while the other clubs in the area (Select, LFCIA, Bolts) all play at premiership and NPL. It is actually embarrassing that this guy runs a soccer program if that is where he is going to promote players to go.

No one is downplaying D3 soccer. The ”tip” is overstated. No way all those kids got assistance with admissions. Nor do they need it as the demographic of club soccer is affluent and well healed. Most of those kids would have gotten into those schools with out the Bolts help.
Wonder how many will still be playing by their junior year

I understand the likely intent behind the email but probably could have been a bit less fatalistic.
                    How many? I'm guessing 30.

Overstated? You are a moron. Kids with 4.0 GPAs are, at best, a coin flip at Chicago. Tufts is a top 20 University. You must not have kids that have gone through selective admissions.

                        Spot on. Commitment equals enrollment

There’s a reason why D3 rosters are huge.

Not accurate but that's ok, it's TS.

And how many kids play (or played) soccer in New England for the Class of 2021? Probably a million played as some point and then as kids drift away from the sport you are down to thousands by high school. So 187 or 277 out of a big number means your odds are not good. The Braintree Youth Soccer guy’s assessment isn’t wrong when he says maybe 1-2 players, or maybe none, might go on to play in college. Those are the facts and the numbers in the NE Soccer Journal support that. He’s painting a realistic picture and it’s sensible advice to say to invest your time and money accordingly. Nothing wrong with that.

If the letter is directed at parents who are considering club soccer for the first time, then it's completely realistic to adviser the families to look at local clubs first, start figuring out for themselves what's going on, and then ratchet up the commitment (or not).

Jumping straight in to long travel and cost to go to a "destination club" just because you heard they get a lot of D1 commits isn't necessarily good advice for most families. If your kid is one of those (known) future prospects, you aren't wandering around at this point in the year still trying to decide whether you should get into club soccer or stay in town. That doesn't mean it will never happen, but it's not RIGHT NOW.

You may as well stay with Braintree Youth Soccer and save even more money rather than overpaying for CFC.
