Because the 08 NEFC team did so well against the new ECNL OkFC team.

NEFC= feeder program. Every year at U-15 going forward clubs will poach NEFC's best players. 08 NEFC your squad is next! Here is hoping that the final number will be less than 7 that left from the 07 NEFC team.

After all this ECNL bull about being superior if you look subjectively at the preseason list for GU-14's it's almost automatic that it goes:

            1. NEFC
            2. South Shore Select
            3. Aztecs
            4. New England Surf
            5. FC Stars Blue
            6. Scorpions
            7. FC Stars White

NEFC and Select would beat any Massachusetts team every single time. Just look at last week's GA tournament where both teams dominated in their divisions. Can't wait to the beginning of the season and watch NEFC and Select battle for superiority in the GA which is quickly becoming the preeminent girls league in the country.

Older age parent chiming in. There will be a mass exodus by U15. The smart ones will try to jump earlier, as spots are very hard to come by at U15. See 2007 SSS & NEFC. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

The key word here is “subjectively”

Older age parent here too. There has not been a mass exodus in most age groups. If you believe what you read 07 GA lost some players but 06, 05, 04 didn’t lose more than you’d expect. 1-2 kids a year will jump clubs. Don’t let the ECNL mob scare you into leaving a good situation.

Oh.. and the “spots are hard to come by”. Really? Didn’t 6-7 07 kids just take spots on ECNL rosters? Spots are not hard to come by because the local ECNL talent level is low. The league is the draw nationally but not locally

This just exposes you as a troll. Select played terrible last week. Went 1-2 in their division playing underwhelming competition.

NEFC will have one more year in the top section of the 08 List (with Blue, Surf and Aztecs) before they drop like al the other nEFC girls team do at U15. Select is already sliding.

No there's rarely a mass exodus from teams unless something really bad is going on. HOWEVER, teams will lose their top 1-4 players and that entirely changes a team's dynamics. At this age a team just isn't able to fill all those spots with equal replacements, maybe 1-2 starters that's it. It also triggers fear/re-consideration among other families wondering if maybe they should jump ship too. Don't downplay it just because it's not half the roster.

It won't happen after this. By U15 rosters are very hard to crack. This year was also higher than normal because there were some quality players looking to move because GAL is a sinking ship. Clubs take players that will be top half of the roster, not bench warmers

Sure, there is normal amount of club jumping… from both leagues. My point is the 07 group is the anomaly, other age groups its been the same as it ever was. Stars attempts to belittle GA and scare parents into thinking they are losing out if they don’t play ECNL… its just not true. More ECNL talent is going D1 but not everyone is looking for that and not everyone is good enough, regardless of the badge

Parents don't need to be scared - they saw very clearly what was happening. GDA collapsed, leaving a shell of a league called GAL. The competition was weak and getting weaker. ECNL got stronger and stronger, college coach interest and commitments strong as ever. For any rare NT prospect the need to play GDA/GAL disappeared. Some of those players probably would have jumped the year before if they could have (GDA fell apart last minute + covid made tryouts a challenge).

Yet the league and some parents can't seem to accept their new found role as the B league. If you're not aiming for higher level D1 then yes GAL may be a great place for you. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just don't claim it's at the same level as ECNL as some do, especially the GAL clubs trying to sell you something.
