High school training does not substitute for DA training. So if you play high school soccer, you are missing training quality opportunities , in your prime training years. Sorry , but it’s the truth. Not everybody is cut out for the commitment it takes to play at the highest levels . For the majority of players, high school is ok.

OK, For the 1-2 NT prospects in New England that may be important. For every other soccer player a GDA it is ridiculous that they are being asked to give up their high school soccer experience (which is not about the soccer at all). And playing HS for 8 weeks has not hurt any ECNL or NPL players from playing in college, which we all know is the goal for most of those girls. Stop with “highest levels” crap. That it NT play, and there are not enough girls in New England across all age groups to field even one team. Don’t ask the majority to sacrifice for the benefit of 1-2.

You don't need to play HS soccer to get the HS experience. Heck my daughter is part of every spirit club she can be on and is always at the school and part of the community.

GDA is a necessity due to circumstances for most, not something that is sought out.

For some the HS Soccer experience is extremely positive and rewarding, even if the level is frustrating at times.

Absolutely. Heck, I loved it. I won't begrudge anyone for taking that path. Personally, my D is a little conflicted. I think she'd like the opportunity, but isn't necessarily missing it either.

When she was a U-little, soccer was a social thing for her. It was almost a problem, that she wanted to play with friends more than push herself, which was fine. "Problem" isn't the right word here; but she had a few chances to go further but didn't want to.

Over time, that shifted. I think she sees the HS aspect in the same manner as when she was young.

My only hope is everyone who plays this game loves the shlt out of it, and passes that love to their kids. No matter the level, league, or club they choose.

I have opposite, my d couldn’t care less about hs soccer, just wants to compete at highest level. I am conflicted because, although the soccer sucks, the time spent with friends on the field, bus and banquets cannot be replaced or imitated. ECNL nit an option based on geography, certainly wish Da would lighten up because any honest adult realizes regular nt playing time is a pipe dream for most. They might actually cultivate a competitive environment for the true .0001% if they were more flexible with the other 99.999%

I don't think it's always about the NT thing. Our coach sees physical issues and "bad habits" preventing him from putting the plan together. Can't tell if the plan works, unless it's followed.

But, ultimately, I do agree with your point

Funny, AS from SSS seems to be doing OK (playing up 3 age groups on the U18 YNT) while playing in HS.... Is she not "cut out for the commitment it takes to play at the highest levels"? Will be interesting to see if she asks for a waiver next year.

How many HS games and practices does she miss for higher soccer commitments? Does she just show up as a ringer for an occasional game ?

USSF doesn't care about HS soccer and wants players training ten months a year (well, they say ten months but it's really less than that). They feel the time spent in HS soccer is wasted and would be better spent under their platform. While I know they're under pressure to keep the league going, I don't think they will cave on this issue. It's a fundamental part of their platform. Also, they'd have to allow it for boys if they give it to girls first. They really don't want to do that because the MLS clubs don't want it.

Not the poster - we had a NT player a few years back. I think she only missed three games and a few practices. Might be luck on the timing too, not sure. She loved her team and was so hard core when it came to training nothing was going to stop her.

I think the point is she did not give up high school soccer.
I'm sure she could have gone to NEFC for GDA is she wanted to.
I think you made a point against yourself. If she's missing high school commitments than she would also be missing GDA commitments right?
So what's the point of playing GDA if your going to miss their stuff also.
Question would be if she played GDA and just showed up to some events would that also to be like a ringer?

You are missing the point. Any player with NT potential, that tries to “ fit in” high school soccer with their higher level club training, is no doubt a ringer when they show up to play at a HS game.

Duh. She wouldn’t miss GDA commitments over high school stuff, if given the opportunity to do both.
