If kids are nervous about losing their spot, then it's a fixed number of spots. No new money. If clubs are filling rosters for cash, then they are adding spots, so there is nothing to worry about.
You really need to stop sucking your binky, take a logic course, and accept that your "incredibly talented" kid is emotionally fragile.

Not understanding that and calling her fragile is the mark of complete and utter trash human being. You'll probably have some stupid aggressive thing to say to make sure everyone knows just how much of a badass you and your family are, but I for one won't believe it. I think your just a D-Bag who thinks too highly of himself. You should spend time examining why you needed to classify 11/12 year old girls as emotionally fragile. It's apparent to me you have a lot of emotional development still to work on yourself. And before you go off on a stupid rant about my kid sucking, you should know that she's on the top team in her club who was one of the top teams in the top division and does not come out of the game at all (and is not a goalie). So when I call you a donkey, a D-Bag or a trashy mess of individual, it's not coming from a place where I'm envious of your perceived status or am jealous of anything, It's coming from a place inside of me that gets angry that a D-Bag like you is allowed to walk and type such vile BS behind a keyboard and doesn't have any consequences. I hope you get some help until then... You are a piece of trash.

It's great to have good competition and play at a high level but you don't need to invent ways to add more pressure. Here is a novel idea wait until the season is over not make decisions when it is starting.

There's a few leagues where you can show up and not have to worry about anyone taking your place and everyone gets orange slices after the game. I suggest this may be the correct place for you.
A player who sees others coming in have a few mindsets:
1) Someone is here to take my spot. I have to work harder to make sure that doesn't take place.
2) Someone is here to take my spot. My dad won't stand for that because he thinks I'm really, really special and he'll talk to the coach.
3) Someone is here to take the place of someone's else spot who shouldn't be on the team.
4) As long as the ice cream is cold, I don't care.
Why are we so afraid of competition?
They can get competition in the league and tournaments they don't need more. When your kid comes home from school do you give her extra homework on top of what the teacher gave, have her take SAT pretests to really get her ready I mean why not over stress them in every aspect of their life so they can be truly miserable.
Parents how complete forgot what is like to be a kid.

Agree with lot of what was said about player stress. However, harsh reality is that playing for a top club on the top team is stressful as it’s perform highly or your out the next year. The concept of team doesn’t exist as well on these teams because the kids know they are also competing against one another. If your kid can’t handle stress well it’s just simply not a good fit or wait until they are older.

Unless you think that there is only one team of 11/12 year olds worth playing for, you shouldn’t be losing any sleep over this. If you think that only certain players and clubs are worthy of playing with, then it sounds like you deserve what you get and all the stress that you think goes with it. There are so many clubs , teams snd opportunities out there to play soccer. You have choices, if you are willing to step out of the comfort of your small world.

Stress, or even just a healthy sense of competition definitely comes with the territory but I agree that we should not let the clubs business goals result in turning the pressure up to the detriment of the players. Yes, in some clubs it is perform or you're out but I just think that if the clubs are going to charge so much money for "development" they should show some more faith in their own ability to teach the kids across the full season. Holding ID camps in Feb/March and official tryouts in April, before you even play a spring game shows how little confidence they really have in their own ability. The kids shouldn't feel so comfortable that they get complacent, nor should they be judged on a half season of play. Do it all after memorial day.

It's a tough balance, to much stress and they might quit, but not enough they don't develop. You have to know your daughter and push when you can and hold back when you need to.

Do you think they will produce or feel part of the team for the next 4 games?

Show themselves after Memorial Day? Wot tha’???
They’ve had all season to show themselves. Every player on a supposedly high-level team as is represented here should be under the assumption there is another, better player out there and their coach is trying to find them.
I think many of you want your kid to be the best on their team; not necessarily a great player

Maybe it's just our club, but the main issue we are seeing with the trial players joining practices the past couple of months is that they are usually there to replace the very bottom spots on the roster (those kids who, as someone mentioned, maybe shouldn't have been on the team in the first place). So the trial players are usually much weaker than the average players on the team, with some coming from the team below in our club. When you have 5-8 of these players at a practice, it really kills the quality and hampers the development of the kids who earned their spots by putting in good performances the previous year. I'm all for bringing trial kids in over the winter, when the training is a little less intense anyway, and then perhaps again two weeks before tryouts to get an extra look, but having them there throughout the entire winter and spring season is overkill and not good for team dynamics or player development.
