Actually helped teams with weak mid fields because punt and chase would work well. Still a good tournament.
I would say the girls are all outgrowing these 9 v 9 fields. I assume all the fields meet the 9 v 9 requirements but on the smaller side. This is their last season and then on to the big fields next year.

Not sure NEFC is ever at a disadvantage regardless of the field.

Only outgrowing them if you play longball ... a 10-yard 1-2 is a 10-yard 1-2 on any sized field and teams that can string these together all day long will find success throughout their time playing together, regardless of the size of the field. Conversely, long ball gets really tedious on the big field.

Agreed and I think people throw out the term long ball too much. Not every pass will be a 10 yard pass. Some teams press high up the field and take away everything short. If there is nothing there what is the team going to do. In any game you have to look at the opportunities the other team gives you. Sometimes short clean passing and other times stretching the defense. If you don't want to get beat by long balls back up and give them the short pass.

The teams at this tournament were not playing long ball, just some longer passes were made. Not the reason any team won or lost.

I wouldnt say long ball was only factoir but certainly teams with size have their advantage somewhat enhanced when the field is small. That and one of the refs was really letting a lot go, such that in one game my kid played in both coaches approached him together to talk about how violent things were getting because he wasnt calling fouls.

Joursey refs never call anything. It's goon ball. My kids would always leave these events with bloody feet and shins from being stepped on and kicked. Gotta love Jersey ball and PDA raking it in.

Make no mistake, PDA coaches for those tactics. Having known people whose kids played there this is something they teach. Jersey soccer is definitely its own brand if physical play.

You can say what you want but it is absolutely true that in NJ they play more physical soccer and the refs allow it.

Also it is "tiki - taka"

Own the losses and adjust on the field as the game permits and own any lose. End of the day player size will be an issue for a few years for some Kids/teams as kids mature physically at different times especially around these ages. If you can’t fight through or get bumped off the ball your going to have a tough road for now especially on small field because there is no room to really tick tack toe around. Don’t think there is anyone in here that isn’t anxious for 11v11 unless your kid is slow and lacks endurance- in that case say good bye to the good old days

Try feeding your kids beef with growth hormones. Stay away from organic and grass fed beef. Then you will be better able to compete with NJ.

NEFC has a lot of very talented players in this age group.
