Depends. If you're not a particularly strong student, a trade and apprenticeship would be cheaper and probably the better option.

If you're very good at certain skillsets, like programming, there isn't a whole lot of incentive to go to college. Sure there are companies that might not hire a bright young programmer because they don't have a college degree, but the reality is there are plenty of opportunities to work in startups and other companies as long as you have the skillset and experience, and the experience isn't that difficult to get with things like github and contributions to public projects.

I'm talking about Revs kids skipping college, not smart kids or tradespeople.

If your son wants to play professionally, move to a European Academy. If High Academic college is your end game, go to ISL / Privates for fall, and a club that they will have fun for the spring. Whether REVS, Red Bulls, Philly Union, or Seattle Sounders; MLS Soccer isn't worth giving up an education for.

Would you move to another city for your son to play for an MLS academy AND give up an ISL education? I guess with only 1 child and/or enough finances and /or great job flexibility, is possible.

Thats why a few MLS clubs started residency programs so families don't have to move. I don't have a kid that could go pro and I know it. Problem is some families aren't realistic, not just soccer but other sports also.
However if soccer improves their educational opportunities for HS or college heck yeah we will take them.

Check the commitments. ISL kids that play club commit first and to the best schools. Talk about the enviroment at ISLs all you want but good colleges trip over themselves for those students.

😆 many are some of the best high schools in the country. You of course know that but want to degrade them since your kid isn't at one. They're not for everyone (not our family) but the academics at most can't be beat. Must be why top colleges love ISL kids.

And you would know. Listen: more than 50% of the kids attending receive “aid”. If you kid is an athlete, higher probability of aid. Much of the aid is truly financial need; an unsurprising fact given the fact that tuition is higher than 99.9% of the colleges in the US. We did not require aid. It was offered. I would know.
