Don’t need it. Went to his top choice ID camps. Took a few weeks but since he didn’t spend hours upon hours driving to practice and to games, he studied and did other stuff. He’s very happy. And a small amount of soccer money is fine.

So sorry you have brainwashed your kid to accept mediocrity.

F you! In this country soccer is a pastime at best. The Revs get that:)

Awwww, so cute! Did you just try to justify his situation?

Look at the commit list - plenty of mediocrity in there. May as well try something different route and end up at the same place, even more so if it gives you more time for school and a life.

So your son didn’t play any club soccer and got recruited + earned an athletic scholarship through soccer camps alone?

Justify a soccer and academic scholarship at a decent Div 2 school in an absolute beautiful setting? Sure, why not? If it makes you feel better.

He played club soccer - not academy.

The Academy program is a mirror image of the first team. Got shutout by expansion Cincinnati FC. Sad.....

As do plenty of players. DA can't even fill all the roster spots out there. Academy is certainly not a necessity for playing in college, it just greatly improve your odds of playing higher level college soccer. If you're aiming for mid to lower level then you can play high level club that does some decent showcases, play HS if you want, do some ID events. most likely are your entire team won't play in college but at at least half a dozen will if it's a good club team.

Over and under. Revs won’t win more than 10 games. My bet is under. Pathetic showing against Cincinnati FC. As a former season ticket holder I stopped going to the game since two years ago because they are awful to watch. You are right their academy is a reflection of their first team. Poorly coached and under performance.

You confuse me. I’ll go post by post with the hope that my points don’t become intermingled.

You are referring to DA soccer, correct? If correct, I don’t disagree if you are targeting certain D2 or most D3 schools.

Even DA players need to do this, at least in my opinion.

Here is where I begin to question your point. If he played club soccer, even lower level club soccer, how did he/you not, “spend hours upon hours driving to practice and to games?”

Does your family live next to the field where he practiced? I have to assume hours upon hours of time, in the aggregate, were spent driving to practice.

You must have played games out of state at some point. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Did you mean to suggest that DA players can’t manage to, “study and do other stuff?” Maybe you can define, “other stuff,” for people. I can assure you that most DA players study, some more than others. You don’t simply breeze into Schools like Dartmouth, Brown, Amherst, Bates or UVA because you can juggle a soccer ball.

My son is very happy also. Being happy isn’t a function of the league they play in, per se.

Any soccer money is GREAT, not fine. Congrats to your son.

Did you mean to convey that your son is mediocre?

I’m fine with kids taking any route they choose if it makes them happy. It sounds like you, based on your statements, don’t afford the same latitude to kids who choose a harder path than your son’s. Most of my son’s teammates appear extremely happy, studious and social. It’s not as though they are sequestered. Do they have to approach life differently than your son? Of course they do. They’ve chosen a regimented life contingent upon commitment to task and team. That’s a sign of character in and of itself, and should be celebrated rather than disparaged.

Only 10,000 fans on a beautiful Sunday. Bleak. If my son had real talent, I wouldn't consider the Revs academy for a second if it meant that you are essentially owned by them. Could someone explain exactly what commitment you make to them if you sign with the Revs Academy? Thank you.

Don’t need it -was in response to ‘good luck’
Soccer practice was 10 min drive. Games were 45 min at most. Not 4 hours or 2 weeks of missed school to lose 0-8
He went to the Russian School of Math 2x/week
He interned at a cool tech co in town.
I was merely telling the forum our experience. You don’t need DA. He declined a Revs offer BTW and is actually pretty good. But he’s not going to play after college, except for fun so he enjoyed high school soccer, winter BB and then spring club.
Congrats on what your son is doing. Let’s hope he doesn’t regret it.
