There are a very few US players and they all have the same story- Soccer dad was their coach.

Residential:that's how they're made
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostSo true. Kids in the US start off learning from well meaning but poorly trained mostly volunteer coaches, some of which never even played the game. Even once they move into club coaches can't even compare in terms of qualifications to coaches kids the same age get abroad. Kids abroad also play far more frequently in free play, not organized under adult supervision. Then there's differences in culture, pay to play, pro club infrastructure, different financial structure to profit off home growns....That said other MLS clubs are investing in their DA and first teams, players, facilities. Not so much in Foxboro.
European academies, and certainly the soccer powerhouses like Brazil and Argentina are residential by 15. Futbol players need to choose between attending school or a full time academy. that's how they're made (hours and hours of practice each day)
