      Yes.
Maybe (technically should but it's the Revs, cheapskates if they can get away with it).

DF has had a good career. ZH has gone nowhere and he walked away from college offers.

What does DF do after soccer though? He made $180,000 last year. That's pretty good but it sure isn't enough to retire on even if he invests it wisely.

ZH made $65k. Good luck going to college at this point. It's expensive.

I meant career as in playing/contributing. Very few make decent retirement money in the MLS, even less so at the Revs. ZH should have gone to school. This latest one? Given the Revs track record I'm not sure I'd want my kid making that choice no matter what his dreams as aspirations may be to turn pro.

Are the Revs really free when you factor in that they own your rights? I think not.

If ZH ends up getting no playing time after a few years and decides to cut his losses and go to college, could he still receive merit money if his high school grades/test scores were high enough? If so, for very good students, it seems the attempt to make a career out of soccer is not as big of a risk as some people make it out to be. At that point, a kid would probably be ready to hang up the cleats (or just play for fun) and look forward to a non-soccer career, so the loss of playing college ball wouldn't be such a big deal.

What do you think the EFC for an individual over the age of 24 that shows $180,000 in earnings would be? You can forget merit aid. You can forget any aid. He'll pay full boat without question.

Question - if a player plays a pro sport for a few years, is he able to get an athletic scholarship to college for another sport?

DF probably will coach (maybe join DC at the Bolts).

ZH wouldn't be able to play soccer in college right? (because he's ex-pro)? Then he would just need to rely on need based financial aid (assuming he qualifies)

$180 K or ($65( in ZH's case) would be previous year salary. Current year salary would be $0 so EFC would be generous assuming most of the $180K/year has been spent and not in a bank account

They use previous year's tax return for EFC so $180k is in play year one. Savings for sure would also be in play. Financial barrier to entry would be large year one.

Why don't ex-Revs players coach at the Revs? It's strange.

unless he takes a year off and coaches club or something..

I don't think college was EVER in the cards for this particular player.
