So did bryan Scales get his New Years gift yet? When will Friedel send him packing? After he finishes forming his roster that should logically be the next step. If he doesn't it's yet another sign that nepotism and mediocrity still rule at the Revs.

Thoughts on the US Soccer Development Academy going to a 3 tier system with an MLS only tier?
Are you willing to have your child travel 1000 miles for one game?
What if MLS DA becomes pay to play? Do you stick with it?
Will you stay if the Revs are a perennial cellar dweller?
What if the Revs get relegated to teir 2? Do you stay?
If the Revs turn over half the team each year as it stands, how many will be cut when the true influx of players comes in?

Revs will not become pay to play
Revs will be cellar dwellers
MLS teams will not get relegated. They wouldn't agree with this. They will get exposed but not relegated
Parents never believe that their kid will get cut until they do
Finally this is a net positive for MLS as they will have more talent and control of that talent for home grown salaries

But, more importantly, if you put MLS into the their own bracket? Yes it's good for MLS clubs and what they prefer. For non MLS clubs it's a disaster. You remove what makes the league special - involvement from and competition with MLS clubs. You've just made it another pay-to-play league that is little different from ECNL or other. Yes some non MLS clubs are excellent but many are not and no that different from elsewhere. So more travel (and costs), weaker competition and (possibly) still give up high school.

I can see parents being asked to chip in for travel at least, maybe doing travel scholarships based on verifiable need.

Revs! this is how u do it.... FCD-style!
"An NCAA coach's job depends on his record, and the most essential skill is recruiting, not player development. The mismatch of interests also affects the quality of play at the professional level."

How many games would require a bus?
How many games would require a flight?
NYCFC
NYRB
Phildelphia Union
Montreal Impact
After those you're basically earning frequent flyer miles.
Those 4 would account for 8 of 26 games if they keep the number of competitions per season the same.
Those other 9 away games would be a major pain.

Ssssshhhhhh! Listen. Can you hear that? That's the sound of high school coaches cheering and clapping in their homes, warming their feet in front of the fire. US Soccer just improved the high school game exponentially.

Other possibilities
- Orlando and ATL
- More showcases
- Perhaps Toronto enters DAP
- A few non MLS teams in NJ or NC
- USL teams

My point assumed an all MLS only tier.
The new time commitment would all but preclude participation by serious students. I guess that would make US Soccer happier in the long run anyway.
