First, I am not the poster that you are going back and forth with.
Second, did you actually look at all division 3 teams?? You don't have anything better to do?
Third; The question is whether or not it is worthy 8 years (assuming) at 3-5K per year for you kid to play college soccer. The answer is an individual one and does not necessarily lend itself for anyone person to determine what is best for another. It is up to the family as to how they might spend their money.
That said, as you go through life with your family, you hope to allow them the best opportunity you can. This is not to say that you will hand them anything on a silver platter with a silver spoon. It might mean, however, that you would invest in them. The better college they attend the better these opportunities are. Since it takes more than just good grades (not to minimize this) to get into a better school, the student must have something else. For some it is community organizing stuff and volunteerism (great to do) and for others it might be sport or a club (math club counts!!!). Don't minimize the impact that a coach can have in getting your child through the front doors of a fine school. After that, your kid has to do the work.
When I look back on what we have done for our kids I hope not to look back and ask to many times the question: "What if I had done......." Whatever money I spend and how many miles I drive is my choice. You can criticize all you want, but it is not your place to make my choices. While I respect your right to do so, you have to respect the fact that you only have say in how your kid is raised.
