Long may the Q3 remain the new overlord of youth soccer. Q1 it’s time to pass the torch.

      Oh the humanity!

P.S. Number freak.... Your kid can always buy the jersey of a kid who will no longer be with the club on the cheap. I suspect there will be many kits avaliable soon.

        How many #10's?

          Are you for real?

In youth soccer, the kid who wears #10 is rarely the best kid on the team. They are the ones who have been there the longest or whose parents care about such things.

Sorry if this has been asked (this is a LONG thread), but what is the opinion on 12th grade teams once this happens? I would think at least half of a solid ECNL (or even ECNL-R) team would be committed by 12th (or by the Fall)? Will that mean less interest in Spring showcases or fewer showcases for those teams?

And who pays for all those new jerseys for the other two players (potentially 10 jerseys) and what if backpacks and warmup jerseys also have numbers embroidered?
                That's $150 per player.
So assuming 8 trapped players per team, that's $1200 per team for the club!

So big question is: who gets to keep their number?
And who pays for the new stuff: player or club?
with the exception of Cedar Stars in NJ, money for jerseys don't go to clubs outside of sponsorship deals on jerseys. Its easy to say its "just a number" but a number can be something important to a kid. Pro athletes give other players cars to switch numbers. It's just another thing to create tension at clubs. I'd be lying if i didn't check to see if there is a trapped player on the team above my daughter and if there is one on the team below (my daughter is a trapped player) that wear the same number as my kid.

It's just a number. Parents should stop obsessing over them and their kids will too. It's the parents that create the hype

Infact I wish clubs would use random number generators that start at 12.

Coaches pick their #10's, 6's etc. Not parents.

My sons team uses the 7, 9 & 10 as decoy numbers for our worst players. That way the other team focus is on the wrong players.

Sorry but the Coach gets to decide his players' identities not Soccer Mom or Soccer Dad

Ha ha. You have a brilliant Coach!

My kid has had the same number on all of his teams, it's on the bags, the sweatshirts, the warm up jackets, the trophy shelf. It's definitely part of his soccer identity. If he loses it on the one team he'll be fine (but I also asked him if there's the same number on the older team.). On the upside after all of these pages we have something new to talk about so thanks Reditt guy!

#99 on the field, #10 in our hearts

Remind him that he’s more than a number.
