You are correct the women have been pretty dominant...the men's side not so much. Which I assume is what this change is being made for.

That is my point...improving participation, specifically in certain demographics, will improve our odds on competing on the international level (USMNT).

How could ECNL implement this change in spring? Not all ECNL leagues have pre-ecnl. What happens to the U13 roster spots when trapped U14 players take trapped U13 roster spots in spring? Furthermore, there are different numbers of trapped players in various age groups. How would a spring roll out work?

lol, because we don’t train kids correctly. The coaching is mostly mid to poor in general. We try to create superstar players instead of team players. Soccer is not basketball, it’s a team sport. We discourage creativity because we don’t want mistakes. Most parents have no idea what they’re looking at so they can’t help their kid because they never played and don’t understand the game. I can go on and on. None of it has anything to do with age cutoff potna

…and yet why did the pipeline of great men’s players just sort of dry up after the Pulisic and Reyna. There is no one of consequence that is following that group of twenty something’s. They were the product of DA and old age cutoffs

MLSNext is not changing. So thats a bad assumption.

Changing the age cut off doesnt make better players. However, having parents who played professional soccer, such as the two you mentioned, might have an impact

Pay for play is the reason why. Our best athletes never try. The Deion Sanders, Bo Jacksons, DeAndre Hopkins, etc... never had a spare $2000 - $5000, plus time to travel and book hotels. They play football because it is subsidized by public schools. Basketball also is heavily school based and the top AAU teams are sponsored.

Scholarships are non-factor. They are just as likely to be used on retaining top players, or poaching them, then they are to address financial hardship, especially for a kid aged 9-11. Waiting after that to get kids into the game is likely too late.

On the just released ECNL podcast, they had a gentleman on from the UK, that describes program over there. European Champions League academy teams all are organized by school year. He said it only is a slight issue in international play. He also said that the UK has been organized by school year for as long as he can remember...
