    The Caitlin Clark Phenomenon

This person might actually make a women’s sport broadly popular. No coincidence she’s white, straight, religious, and from the heartland. Taking notes, women’s soccer?

She is also a generational talent.
if a gay black swimmer from the inner city beat all Micheal Phelps records the media coverage would be non stop. Same for a white sprinter or a black hockey player that scores more goals than Gretzky….

people are quick to say people and media are racist for being interested in Clark but those same people and media would be interested in the other scenarios also

Yes, there would be media coverage.

However, media coverage does not equal what the general populace is interested in.

Clark is just more relatable to more people in the country, like it or not.

OP here. To build on your point, Serena Williams was a black woman from a blue collar family that entered the upper crust white world of women’s tennis and galvanized the sport. She was a great player, but she was also likable.

Generational talent…… She was not MVP of this year’s final four. You can’t even name who did. Two members of the team that beat her outplayed her that day. Never has played on the WNT. Probably not good enough. Great stats though. Against whom?!

She’s the all time scoring leader, so that qualifies for generational talent in any sport

Tiger woods did same for golf.
i think people (black and white) naturally root for people that look different than what you expect people to look like. So yes people root for Clark because she’s white but people rooted for woods because he is black.

                Gary Anderson

                Scoring is overrated.

Nope, just overrated. Kamilla Cardoza and Angel Reese both outplayed her in the two championships. Nothing wrong with either of them that a bucket of white out couldn’t fix.

Moving from the amazingly likable to the unlikable, when is the WNT Soccer going to part ways with Korbin Albert? Speaking ill of Megan Rapinoe is akin to a Republican speaking ill of the Orange guy. Career ending move.

Right. God forbid we just let players play and have their own beliefs. Can't have that.

But more importantly, on draft day both of those players stood in her shadow. So much for your logic. What do the professionals who saw her as the number 1 pick in this draft as well as the top coaches said about her. Lauding her on what she has brought to the womens game that you don’t understand? She has the same intangibles as Jordan and Kobe that you either have or not. Nothing fake about her and people see that.

Why is it ok to have certain players express their beliefs but not others? Albert stepped in it by not playing along, she will be cancelled soon. Cautionary tale for all future NT invites, toe the line.
