            That is the point if you look at the post that the answer was in response to;

            Post 1: anyone thinks the path to "earning" athletic scholarships isn't paved with a little gold (or green I guess)....

            Response: Exactly....basically the scholarship is offset by the parents payments thru the years.

            I agree that the club system is priced too high but the point is the parents who take joy in saying "my kid is on scholarship, isnt costing us much to send him or her to school" Well, ya...right now it may not be but via the Club system, you've basically prepaid for the scholarship. If you've spent $20K in Club to get a $20K scholarship, the kid isnt going for free.

                Speaking only from our situation, daughter played 4years @ Div 1 private. Scholarship was 75% Freshmen , 85% Sophmore, Full Jr & Full senior. Played for more than 1 club team (not stars) no ecnl and the expenses WERE FAR less than the total athletic grant.

                  And what of the vast majority that don't receive a scholarship ? The participation by the ones that don't in the market may have a direct effect on the ability for others out of the market, who may be more qualified, but are eliminated from participating becasue of the cost of admission.

                    The real world has actually moved in the opposite direction . There is more emphasis on equal opportunity , equal access and the ability to move through and up the economic strata in our society then at nearly any time in our history. Only those that may have something to lose embrace the status quo.

                        Where are these schools that only cost 20K? Maybe for one year.

                          So when BC awards a scholarship (or any other $50k + school for that matter); they state in the offer letter that the PV is approx. $250k all in in...wow, they must just hand those out!? And, club soccer must be expensive...holy Toledo

                            Yeah, there are entire courses in the Womens Studies departments of the Ivies and NESCACs devoted to Senator Brown's contributions to the feminist movement. You are the joke, desiring to go back to a world where you can slap women and minorities around.

                                Are you implying that you want me to fund your kid's club fees, so that access to club coaching and the club experience would be "fair" for all? Sorry, that won't fly. I'll waste my hard-earned inheritance money on my kid, but I'm not spending it on yours. The privilege to waste $ on club soccer fees for kids that will sit on a high school varsity bench until getting 10 minutes of playing time on "senior night" is strictly a rich person's game. Look in the parking lot when the Stars C team is playing the NEFC D team --- that's when you see the most BMW's, Mercedes, and Escalades.

                                However; if your kid is WILDLY talented and the type of player that will make a good team great, I'm sure the club will help you out with some kind of scholarship aid if you need it. The need good teams at the top to pull in the suckers.
