If she's a 2011 7th grader she should try out (by attending winter trainings) and might make the 2012 team (either regional or national) because next year kids will be grouped by grade. It's worth a shot. What's the worst that could happen?

I think that value proposition is better than what a D1 can deliver to be honest. You just made a great case why 99.99999999% of kids should play in for ECNL.

Is there a reason that the two Stars ECNL teams do not play in many local tournaments? There are three local tournaments upcoming and I do not see them anywhere. I see select and scorpions playing in all sorts of tournaments but I’ve yet to see the stars team anywhere local. I’m not accusing them of ducking anyone but it would be fun for some of the local academy teams to get a crack at white or a unique shot at playing against Blue. Do they just not play many tournaments or are they always traveling for tournaments? This is a question and not a put down.

It is because they suck. Plain and simple. Everyone else treats them like they have COVID-19. Bolts, Suft, Scorpions, whatever… It's a vicious cycle that Gladwell outlines in one of his books. Good players get picked for A-teams, experience more success, get better coaching and the also rans, statistically around 13, quit the sport for good. But who knows what may have happened with them had they just gotten steady, good coaching and been surrounded by other good players. Not saying every player would make it to the "A"s but those on the A/B cusp. We all love stories of kids who make it after being "discarded" but those seem to be the vast exceptions rather than the norm.
