Our kid played for GB, and he told us all kinds of things that turned out to be lies. You really shouldn't believe his bs. He will sign more girls if he wants to, he really doesn't care whether he promised not to.

The real question is if he has a choice between an existing player and a new player that are both EQUAL, will he bump the existing player just to get more $$$ for the club?
But if he's bumping players for unicorns, then he's playing to win.
You want development, go to regional.
You want to win at all costs, put up with national.

The question is how do players become his favorites? Is it because of their ability or because of their parents / connections?

coaches who want to win usually push for merit because that’s the only way to win nationally. this is the only motivation you can trust, and lasts as long as your kid can earn it. That’s the way it should be. I truly despise people who criticize coaches for wanting to win.
coaches who have motivations other than winning are usually corrupt, and they throw out terms like "development" as euphemisms to cover their ego and greed. avoid them. there are very few "good guy" coaches out there at the youth level. It’s a business first and foremost.
If you wanna know what a coach is truly like, find a few parents whose kids have gone all the way through the recruiting process and then you’ll get the full story about who cares, who is an egotistical bitch, and who just wants the money.

Id also revise other posts about National not being about development. Development at National is about Soccer IQ rather than about speed of play and technique building. Development at National assumes the player is already at point C and will take you to point D. National does not have the time or patience to get your speed of play and technique up from point B to Point C.

There really is only one coach at Stars that fits this description. And GB is NOT that coach.

Yes. My point is that GB can't play to win while also pandering to parents. That would be an oxymoron.

Thanks for explaining. As stated above, this applies to every coach. Did you have a specific angle that you are insinuating by asking this question about GB or are you just leaving the sinister implications of your question for everyone to interpret as they see fit?
If you go back to my original post, I say "Nothing wrong with him wanting to win" (at all costs).
I will take a ruthless coach over a corrupt coach. Sounds like GB is ruthless. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

It's interesting how much GB seems to feel the need to aggressively defend himself on this forum.
It's also worth pointing out that the most admired and well-respected coaches (who also win games) are rarely if ever even mentioned on this forum. Those are the coaches you want your kids to play for.
