If it was indeed GB that was responding to my posts, I'm flattered.

But I doubt an ECNL / GA coach can have as good a track record without being ruthless. And so they will get their fair share of hate here.

But do not mistake ruthlessness for corruption. Corrupt coaches deserve what they get.

Also it's quite possible for a coach to be admired, well respected and also ruthless. Infact if your d gets cut by such a coach, you really shouldn't feel any bitterness because you know your d was cut because she didn't meet his standards and not for reasons outside her control.

Are you aware of the definition of the word ruthless? I'm not sure it means what you think it means.

They all mean that he will do whatever it takes to make his team better and to win. If he upsets a kid or family along the way he doesn’t care. Whether that takes the form of sending a kid to regional or lying about how big his roster size will be, he doesn’t care. Most of us reading here today understand that is what was meant, and that aligns with most people’s definition of ruthless. Do you have an alternate definition?

So you think someone who lies can also be admired and respected?

There are way more things to criticize about GB's coaching than ruthless cuts.

I can differentiate his ability as a coach and his shortcomings as a person. Similar to admiring an athlete for their abilities without condoning their off field personas.

                  He's not "lying" intentionally.

My D played for GB and says he was the best coach she had. Was he tough? Yes. But he taught her a lot and she wouldn’t be the player she is without him. Everyone responds differently but he was a very good coach.

National coaches want to make playoffs. So yeah they will
                      - Increase roster sizes if better players show up
                      - Bump kids down to regional if they need more dev
                      - Give unequal playing time
                      - Start the same kids (no they are not favorites, just more bankable)

If your d makes the national roster, she should hit the ground running and work her butt off or else

I know 3 girls that Shawn McDonough destroyed. And I know of 3 more through second hand sources. Excuse me for being bitter about what he did to my little girl. But calling his wife an errand girl does not come close to what he's done to countless girls.

You are someone who can justify and adult male coach treating young middle school girls poorly. These players are not pawns. Many players have left ECNL teams due to the coaches “wanting to make playoffs.” It doesn’t matter if a middle school team makes playoffs. It’s for the coach ego and some parents to brag. No scout will remember the girls at playoffs in 7th/8th grade. At that age the girls are insecure and vulnerable. The coach should focus on player development but that stops the second the player gets the ECNL patch.

It’s not just ECNL coaches that lost sight of player development at Stars it’s also the ECRL teams as well. The only development comes from what the players do on their own with trainers or clinics. The ECNL/ECRL environment is cut throat at Stars. It’s a place to showcase the best players who migrate there but not to develop. From our experience it is a great place to increase speed of play and visibility at showcases. But it’s not where a 12 year old lacking confidence will develop. I could count two ECNL/ECRL coaches who understand development at Stars. The rest understand how to get a team to playoffs. If the smaller clubs who actually do focus on player development could find a way to increase speed of play in trainings then those players would be better off staying with their club until sophomore year of highschool and wait for ECNL patch until when they want scouts to see them, as a developed confident player. But the push from both parents and teammates to be on an ECNL team earl like are 12 had hindered development. These players think they are securing spots on future high school ECNL teams. They aren’t. They will be cut by players who developed outside the club in high school.

You're a Stars coach that's not a parent. So you have no idea of a parent's pain.
You report to SN so he's making you defend him here. I pity you.

"Be better"? How about tell your Stars bosses that. They should fire his trashy a55 instead of promoting him.
