It is not that complicated...choose to play DAP or stay with HS.
frankly, I'd rather he does neither and do things like debate, community service, science. Junior year in high school is tough - putting all into soccer (HS or DAP) is not worthwhile, unless he's going to be a pro, in which case he wouldn't even be living at home. What this is all about is a bunch of middle aged sports wannabes trying to get their kids to do what they couldn't.

I don't know what your kid is like, but there is no getting him to do anything he doesn't want to do. If he didn't want to do DAP, he wouldn't. If he didn't want to give up HS soccer, he wouldn't. And just because he wants to play a lot of soccer doesn't mean that he doesn't care about academics. This isn't about a middle aged sports fantasy; it's about players who really love the sport and want to do it at the highest level they can.

Are you going to tell me that you can't figure out how to have your kid involved in both sports and non-sports related activities? If so, then i submit that you have the bigger problem and not the kids playing DAP, non-DAP, or any other club or non Club sport. You are just making an excuse for not being able to manage time.

Well one thing is for sure with this one kid dropping out, just one, the level of play of the bolts will fall off. The arguement that DAP is the highest level of play loses it value with every kid that choses HS (or gasp! the Free Bolts program).

The level of play for the Bolts will fall off with this one player deciding on HS? I would argue it that it will be the other way around, but that is the whole point here. Decide, and then live with the decision. This going back and forth about who is right or wrong is getting old. The players will know if they have made the correct decision for themselves.

This is just the usual parent making excuses for only caring about a sport, nothing else. Parents are supposed to be helping the kid to make balanced choices, not encouraging passion that leads down a blind alley. Look - facts are, the kid didn't score much against really good teams down the coast. He is big and fast with a good shot - typical american style soccer player. If he realizes by now that soccer is for fun, and keeps it in context of preparing for his real life, he's wise (and/or getting good advice from his parents).

Passion is something parents need to encourage more in all areas of a kids life. The more passionate one is the more happier he/she is at what they are doing and presumably become better at it. Just think how much more efficient you would be at your real job if you were pasionate about it instead of posting your doom and gloom to eveyone on TS. You have misrepresented the word Passion.

There is no doubt that there are some non-DAP kids that could play on either Revs or Bolts but choose not to. There are definitely some DAP players that do not really belong there but are helping to fill the roster. Maybe the coach likes them (Revs and Blackwatch), perhaps the coach was happy to pull them away from the other clubs, or they are helping to pay the total bill.

These are facts and are well known.

However, you are ignorant if you think that one kid leaving is going to sink the entire club. As it stands, each year a few players leave the Bolts to play for the Revs. Despite that, the Bolts find other players. It is very safe to say that the Bolts are better this year than last despite losing about 6 players (U16 and U18) to the Revs or 1 or 2 to non-DAP clubs.

The boy leaving is certainly a very good player, scored many goals this past weekend, and had a fantastic high school season this past year. I also believe that he graduates in 2013, and I suspect that his college selection has already been made. For someone like that I am not sure what the real benefit of playing DAP in his final year of high school would be, unless he is really thinking about making a national team or going pro.

At the same time, his departure will make room for another who wants the opportunity. it is a win-win for everyone.

Very good u16 DAP player who is a HS/3 year. Much harder trying to " Bull Rush " U18 players.

And you are probably the parent of a team mate. Probably chat with
his parents on the sideline. Crawl back under your rock.

DF?? Who is DF?? Oh, is that the advertising gimmick by the Revs to excite the local area youth to come to the games in hopes that they will see 'one of their own' on the field??
