I agree with this - you can have a look at the 2012-13 schedule now on the USSDA site. True us northerners get a few months break but I'll assume there's plenty of practices and trips off to warmer climates in there - costly. So when is a high school kid going to be part of his high school - have time for any other school activities? social activities? Parents too - how much driving can you take? Its one thing if your kid in some top Europe youth academy, to make this commitment - but even then, they live there and you don't do this.
