soccer snobs... Good luck on finding your goalie. If you don't have something positive to offer, keep quiet.

From that serious keeper's point of view you have basically told them the clubs sees them as an after thought. Believe it or not that is a big complaint with keepers who often end up getting no training from their club and a whole lot of grief from people who blame them when things go bad. You might as well just stick a field player in net.

You are parsing semantics and regional colloquiallisms. The terminology for soccer (football) varies in the US depending on where you were raised and what your age is. I know some good coaches who use the terms fullback, halfback, and forward. If they are competent who cares. Striker/forward, midfielder/halfback, defender/sweeper/stopper/fullback, goalie, goalkeeper, keeper..... who cares? Some say pitch - some say field, some say goal others say net, some say PK some say penalty kick. Some say matrix, some say box. Everyone is talking about the same thing and how we were raised in the game influences how we speak about it. I have never called the game footie but respect those who do so.

Good thing he didn't ask for a goaltender. That, I believe, would be a capital crime.

I think this whole thread (with the exception of the initial harmless request) should be nominated for the dumbest award. The bigger issue is that people come on here looking for players in the first place but this isn't the first club that has done it.

I personally thought that was the main point the first poster was making. Few coaches understand the position or do much of anything in the way of training for them. It also costs more to play the position because you have buy the gloves (which only last a couple of weeks at the youth level) and then have to pay for special training on top. Just take it as food for thought next time the striker's dad starts bitching about a goal. BTW, thank god most of them can't put the ball in the ocean. :)
