East Bridgewater South Sectional Champs!!
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostSomething has been up with Central Catholic lately. A loss to Andover and only beating Methuen by 1. The only people who know what happened is the team maybe a sickness is going around or such all I know is if they want to have a shot at the State tournnament they better get it together.
I predict that they will go undefeated during the regular season, look at the coach to be the D2 coach of the year.
You heard it here first.

Harry what are you basing Newton North being #1 on? Their record? Earlier in this thread it was discussed that the Bay State League was weak.

They have a ok-good roster, a poor coach and play a ok schedule. They lost 4-0 to ab and got soundly beaten by peabody in pres-season (i'm aware it's preseason but just a rough guide). They will get found out very quickly against a ls, ab, peabody or central catholic.

Right now there are 4 undefeated teams in D1 North. All have a legitimate claim to the #1 ranking. On paper, Andover has beaten the best opponents and despite the incredible DCL bias by some posters on this site, they probably have the biggest "complaint" with their ranking. All four have beaten at least one quality opponent, all (except LS) have had a stinker tie amongst their results - so I think they all have holes. None have shown themselves to be a clear favorite come turnament time and all nine of the teams I mention have a pretty equal opportunity in Novemeber. There seems to be graeter parity in D1 North this year than in many years with 10 or 11 teams all having a legitimate shot at a title. That will make the tourney very interesting and fun.
D2 may be worse, doubtful that any team will enter the tourney with fewer than 2 losses and I am havinbg a hard time getting a great read on traditional power-houses like Danvers, Belmont and Fenwick. Arlington and Wilmington have added greater strength to the D2 ranks in the Middlesex and when you see teams like Melrose and Stoneham also succeeding in the Midd. it means that there could be five or six teams from that League alone that will contend in D2! My current dark-horse is Beverly. They are young but talented (by current D2 North standards) and we shall see in the next week (after games with Danvers and Peabody).
I rarely deal with d3 because it is too hard to analyze. Teams from the Comm. Con. and Catholic may have graet records but typically struggle in November and teams that perform more poorly in their DCL and Cape Ann seasons can sometimes be favorites in the tourney.
