What it really comes down to for the upcoming western MA U13 girls is choices. Pioneers coaches scream and degrade players, while WU coaches are so meek and mild they lost half their team. FC MA (Amherst) had a good coach but 1 player who carried the team until she got injured. SDA is almost as far as Lancaster, so what are their choices?

Yes, there was some slick operating to say the least, but families have extremely limited options if they live in the Springfeild area and want their daughter to play for a higher level club. Can we all just drop this because its the girls...the 12 and 13 year old girls, who will end up suffering. If any of you find satisfavction in going after kids, then I guess I have nothing I can say to that.

Unless you live here in western MA, and unless you have a daughter in this age group who can compete at a higher level, you really should keep your comments to yourselves. We who live here and do not have the luxury of choosing from several higher quality clubs so close to home have made our choices. Lets just let the girls play.

      best for the child

Reading through these posts has been interesting to say the least. I think that some people have lost sight of what is most important. Do what is best for your own child. I see coaches being criticized for screaming, and others for being too nice??? Well, I have been fortunate enough to have a coach for my daughter that is a good match to her personality. The club is not Stars or NEFC, but she has progressed from good coaching, and a mostly good player/parent/team environment. That is what parents should be looking for. If your child is improving from the coaching and the level of play (whether it be Maple or NEP) is competitive AND your child is happy in the team environment, then those are the things that matter.

. Well said! It should be about the best match for your children: improvment/development; positive environment; having fun..... It's just soccer. Very few will get scholorship$$$ for college if that is your objective. Please please please- send the proper message to your children not just with your words but by your actions- they are sponges -they learn as you do!

          U-13 girls

Hope everyone is settling in with thier respective teams and all parents forget thier personal agendas and let the girls just work hard to play good soccer. Best of luck to all!

Great sentiment, but obviously you weren't around the WU or Pioneers teams last Spring.

All's quiet on the Western Front

Wow! I haven't check out this thread in a long time. Coaches must have put the gag order on all parents!

Just RL. Plus getting smoke din a few preseason friendlies tends to quiet down the crowd.

What field are they using this fall for practice?

Oxbow? Plus they don't really need practice, that are that good.

                      Labor Day tournament

Looks like the Stars West went home early from thier own tournament. They must be loved by the parent club with the game times they receieved. Did they go home early to build the trophy case for next year's State Cup trophy or were there expiring coupons for Old Country Buffet?

Some times the big dog has to smack down the pups to show who is boss. Its just the way it is. Also, putting them in the 2nd divisions and having them lose will reinforce the Alpha thing. Finally when they steal there few good players, it will be complete.

This is not a "STARS WEST" tournament. Stars are reaping the financial rewards of this affiliation, but the STARS WEST teams will never be taken seriously. It is only a matter of time before the coaches/players start jumping ship.

I assumed they were in the top bracket, but per a previous post i guess not. That makes thier departure even move perplexing.

Not if you know the parents and esp the Mom's involved. It really is sad as the kids all seem to be good kids but their parents thought they could orchestrate a top team by hand selecting those who they thought were the best. That rarely if ever ends well. I hope WU or Pios step up and offer these kids a chance for a great coach and good training next year and they all leave SW and head back or over to their original clubs. Anything conceived and implemented in secrecy for the chosen few is never a great idea.

Stay positive. Keep it about the girls and soccer. It's means spirited to pick on the size of the Stars West soccer moms!
