Year 1
DD comes highly touted out of MA and plays a lot for NU during their record breaking year. DA does all the heavy lifting on the goal side. DD ends the year with no goals, but being a freshman and with the afterglow of a great season, he gets a pass.
Year 2
DD and several others stare at the long shadow of DA. Together they must match his season. They don't. DD gets 2 goals. No pass this time. At the postseason conference, DD is familiarized with the new forwards coming in and his new role as depth player or some other position. At this point he has several choices:
1)Take the diminished role, keep the scholarship, and hope for a second chance.
2)Move somewhere else for a fresh start.
The fact that he is not on the roster says two things.
1)He's taking option 2 above
2)Since he does not appear to be playing elsewhere like the SDSU kid, he will likely transfer to a local team and must therefore sit out a year.
He will want to be in his new location by second semester for the spring season. We should hear soon. Just my theory.
