Just pointing out that the bolded note is nowhere to be found on this year's site.

That's because no school has yet started to confirm the signings. It's early. Please pay attention. Try to follow along instead of being the boat anchor that drags the thread down.

Having done this recently, the school does not confirm the verbal openly, therefore the * should not likely appear until Feb when most of those 450 will sign. That does not preclude them from "slipping" those names to ESPN, which is helpful to them for various reasons. The verbal is not binding, but a good faith understanding. For the recruit, they must no longer engage in any more recruiting activity. Having it listed helps both the recruit and other schools.

A college coach is not going to review this list every few days looking to see if player their are interested in has committed somewhere else. They will expect the recruit to communicate to them about their decision.

Exactly. The previous poster is in La La land.

If you think a HS senior is going to tell the dozen or so other colleges that he's committed to a particular school, not them, you are in la la land.

Yeah I saw where a kid changed his commit to another school without informing the original coach. When challenged, the kid said "It's been on my facebook for weeks". 18 year old kids don't fancy verbal phone calls and letters. They use web based info sharing, like ESPN Rise, blogs, etc. That other stuff is for dinosaurs like us. If you don't realize that, you haven't had any kids recently.

Agreed, however it's up to the parents to teach and instruct the child on the proper ways to handle these situations.

My answer: Email the 2-3 who were heavily involved and in the running. Let the other 9 read it on ESPN Rise. Remember, most kids verbally commit before the coach is allowed by NCAA rules to even directly call the recruit.

huh? kind of tough to 'verbally' commit without speaking to each other.

A Division 1 College Soccer coach may NOT call his recruit directly until 1 Jul of the upcoming senior year, yet most are locked up prior to that. So the puzzling question becomes "how does the recruit initiate actions when it is the coach who really decides who he wants." A bit of a mess really.

Verified? How, exactly? Plus, they are blatantly soliciting information from anyone. How credible............
