Re: FCGB Names New Director of Girls Programs

Also, in terms of cost, one change parents were made aware of this year is that things that used to cost extra are now included in team fees - goalie training, striker clinics, technical sessions, all in addition to weekly practices with coaches.
They were charging extra for goalie training, striker clinics, technical sessions?
How many other clubs charge extra?
I can see where that would upset people.

With both an older daughter and younger in this club, we're hopeful things look up soon and also selfish in feeling comfortable that as long as both of our daughters are happy and getting good coaching we don't really care what the overall status of the Bolts girls side is.
Amen to that !!! (not selfish, but smart)

Imagine that, a parent is comfortable with a club because her kids are happy and getting good coaching. Remarkable!

They can and do all the time. They also network with other college coaches and find possibilities for their players.
I actually see this as an advantage all around. Club players are being coached by a college coach who knows the recruiting process, has contacts, and probably can offer a letter of recommendation that is held in higher regard than many high school or club coaches. College coach gets to travel and kill 2 birds with 1 stone - coach and recruit.

If the club/college coach is entering their team in showcases or events that they don't belong in just so they can go to recruit, then there may be a problem. Otherwise it's a win-win.

Who pays the coach's way when they go to coach and rerruit?

Re: FCGB Names New Director of Girls Programs

It depends on the arrangement. If a coach has is traveling to an event as a club coach, my guess is the team they are coaching covers the event (regardless of whether they are also recruiting). If the coach has the money in their budget and its a major showcase that it an annual event for them the school probably pays for it, with the bonus going to the club team's fund not getting touched. But I would guess that an AD would probably be a bit upset if they found out their school was paying for a coach to go "recruit" when that coach was also getting paid to attend as a coach.

This is why the coach should be careful not to drag club teams to a showcasing event just so that they can go without paying for it to recruit.

Most of the time it's the win/win as stated above. Good, considerate college coaches that have club teams are looking out for their own players and do network with other college coaches and help find them positions. This is a good reason to play for a college coach.

While at a tournament why shouldn't they do the same? (network with other college coaches and do some scouting).

If true, why aren't the Bolts playing at Scorp Bowl?

Not going to the Scorpion Bowl - let's see - maybe because they have only one competitive team on the girls side right now. Maybe because several of their teams are struggling to get a full player roster together to play MAPLE this year. Maybe because the teams are not interested in thier present forms to play anything other than a MAPLE/MASC season. Maybe simply because unlike most people on this forum - the world does not start or end with Scorpion Bowl or Stars Labor Day tournaments and they have better things to do - or at least OTHER things to do.....

Bolts U18 girls are playing in Florida that weekend at the Bazooka College Showcase. Say what you want about competitiveness, or not being a "top rate" tournament, but given the chance to play that weekend in sunny florida or go to the scorps bowl and not be sure about weather...

Curious about something - who is their "one competitive team on the girls side right now"?

did they apply and not get in?

Can only speak for the older teams, they didn't apply. U18's played in it last year and were finalist so I doubt they wouldn't be accepted if they did apply. Looking for something different maybe this year or it again could be the weather? Could also be the last chance to travel together so they're making the most of it?

I think the Bolts girls are most concerned with the well-being of the people on this forum, so to provide all of you with something to do, they have decided not to apply to the Scorpions tournament in order to provide you all with the something to bash.

In fact, I hear their recent practices includes gathering the team around a laptop with the club directors where they read comments on this forum about them. They do this because everyone realizes that the only true experts on youth soccer post in this forum, and that the information is of such high level, that the people who post can't reveal their actual identity.

Revealing identities would subject them to the infamous "double secret probation"
