Oh, for it to be that simple. Your math is elegant, but the matches still have to be played and life has a funny way of deviating from the paper projections and prognostications. Newton may well win or not.

By the way, not the original poster who took issue with you; nor a Gonk fan so I have no real horse in this race - just the occasional need to weigh in.

Div 3 Sutton vs Bromfield Maybe we can get a good, clean game out of this one
Groton Dunstable was the best team I saw all year and our kids (Mid-Wach A) played everyone in Mid-Wach A twice. They are as good (and deeper) than Algonquin. They are a machine with a really savvy coach. I don't like the "Malfoy" haircuts (who likes Malfoy?) but anything less than a state title would be a disappointment.

Appreciate your comment, but they finished fourth in MidWach B, even losing once to lowly Hudson. They are a young team that seems to be peaking late in the year, with a little luck to boot (e.g. four goals in the last minutes to overcome a 2-0 deficit last night).

BTW, I'm not picking Newton North to win. They have a mediocre record and a low seed. I think Lexington or Brookline come out of that region. Meanwhile, the South region as well as Ludlow will play in big as well. I just think CMass is weak in Div1 and 2. As for D3, Sutton and Bromfield may be OK.

              Grow up!

High school refs are always horrible and they are equally horrible to both sides. The guys that did that game last night could barely walk and could barely keep up with the play. With that said, Marlboro deserved every single card they received. To read the local newspapers and see the Marlboro coach complaining about the officiating is incredulous. Which yellow card could he possibly argue with - maybe the shoulder tackle on the goal line, maybe the sucker punch, maybe deliberately kicking a player while he is on the ground and doesn't have the ball. It was a poorly thought out game plan and it was actually a shame because the Marlboro team has some talent. Last night it was the Marlboro coach, not the refs not the players, that let us down.

Time for a new ref assignor. Plain and simple.

You are a year late, last years GD was the best team maybe in the state div 2 and Nipmuc knocked them out in the CMASS semi's. This year's GD team is a step down from that McCaffrey led team, Nipmuc will will in a close battle. get ready to remove the blonde dye.

So after the PUMA defenders committed a penalty in their box the MPS goalie bailed them out again......lucky to have him in goal.

At least this game showed what the teams are really about: for KM to say in the papers that he's never seen anything like this in 30 years is ridiculous & disingenuous. I guess he hasn't gotten out too much. The fact is, players know how to push buttons. It's common practice to attempt to needle your opponent into fouls - Algonquin does this all too well. Not saying Marlborough responded well. The team certainly learned a lesson. Let's hope Leominster was watching. Algonquin will try the same thing on them and pull the "poor sportsmanship" card without any hesitation.

Let's see who officiates tomorrow. If it is someone younger, then Leominster will be fine. If it is one of the typical Old Boys Club crowd and someone over 50, Leominster better watch out.

There were four good Div2 teams in CMass in 2009

                          Nipmuc

                          GD

                          Grafton

                          Oakmont

Even BVT was OK for a tech school

All those teams were even, with the one having the best night winning. Any of them would win this year IMHO, although this year GD is a young, rising team with a lot of talent.

I agree, all 4 teams (not BVT) were better than the GD/Nipmuc teams this year. Nipmuc starts 7-8 jrs this year so next year they will have their best team since 2007 team that ended up 20-2.

Amazing - so now Marlboro's poor behavior is all Algonquin's fault! You are truly pathetic.

Similarly GD will have a strong Senior/Junior class next year, with its best team since 2007, when they were Div1.
