    1. There are ALOT of girls out of shape. Its really pre-season out there.

    2. Most surprising team (positive) - Fuller Hamlets. Not flashy but organized and tough on D. Watching them play Explosion, it was hard to tell which team finished first and which team finished sixth last Fall. The only difference between those two teams was Explosion's striker. Without her, they are Fuller.

    3. Which brings me to most surprising team (negative) - Explosion. Other than some moments of brilliance from their striker, they looked like a bottom of D1/top of D2 team.

    4. Stars, with all their talent, just didn't look that good to me. They should be able to hold the ball, pass it around, and keep possession at will. Don't get me wrong, they are a really good team but they should be DOMINATING and they are not. They will lose some games again this year in MAPLE and while I think they are the favorite, they could be upset in the semi's or finals of the state cup.

    5. MPS - ehh. They play hard. They are well coached. They have no attack. They would struggle to stay up in D1 MAPLE. In saying that, I think they must not have had their first team keeper today, but it wouldn't have made a difference because they didn't score a goal even gifted a PK by the ref.

    6. Seacoast is hurting without the two players they lost to Stars.

    7. Barring injury (as they appear to have a thin roster), Bolts will stay up in D1.

    8. Scorpions played well below their talent level.
interesting assessment. thanks for the update. will fuller play bolts?

Saw several of these teams play today, so reactions to the above comments. Explosion have started the downslide. Stars are high paced and skilled, but not anywhere near as good as advertised, but some great finishers. Bolts are actually quite weak, I saw no one of note and they were struggling to make two passes in a row in the game I saw. Some out of state teams are better than expected. Seacoast is weak as well, slow pace of play. MPS played Stars pretty even and actually had as many shots on goal as Stars did, lots of skill on that team and plenty of pace as well, not their regular keeper who is a game changer, felt more like a 1-1 game against Stars actually with two silly goals allowed and as noted by prior poster a PK that hit the crossbar. Never saw any of the Scorpions games unfortunately. Nor any of the Hamlets' games.

Great to see some really good soccer and great weather. Also some sloppy and ugly games that I will not mention here.

Hard to maintain possession when you lose two CM's. It'll take awhile to get back in shape.

I thought the Stars did dominate play. Your expectations are probably a little out of focus.

not even close Stars did not dominate the play in any way. They got to soft goals

Western United may be surprised in Subregional--Rays and Alleycats look like they will make a showing

If the coach didn't go off the deep end, they consider it a victory.

Not true. I saw both games. Did you?

They certainly did not dominate the rays. It was 1-0 until about 3 minutes to go and the stars put in one more. Could have been a tie at the end of the game

That game could have been 6-0. The ball was in the Stars possession about 75% of the time and was in the Ray's end about 80% of the time.

If the stars were the dominant team that they claim to be, it would have been 6-0, but it wasn't

The Stars new "star" was a little off from distance. It's not like these other teams don't have some good players and the Stars are the US All star team. But the Stars play very well.

Suck it up, you lost. I don't recall the rules state that a 6 - 0 game is considered a dominant team win. As the previous poster said, Stars controled 80% of the game and won with a decisive score of 2-0.
                              Stop Whining.

Plus the coach didn't go ballistic - so all in all a great day!
