you seem to have intimate knowledge of what happened in Afghanistan...so this is Trump's plan just executed at a later timeline?

if Trump's plan was so good, why is everyone in the GOP trying to pretend it never happened?

Trump officials scramble for distance from his Taliban deal

...Haley tweeted Wednesday, “To have our Generals say that they are depending on diplomacy with the Taliban is an unbelievable scenario. Negotiating with the Taliban is like dealing with the devil.”

Yet that's exactly what Trump did - he negotiated with the devil, with terrorists, while leaving the legitimate Afghan government out of the process.

Trump's plan is inconsequential in the decision that joe made lol...you do know that being the president now means that if you don't like something you can change it...especially true with military plans where he does not need congressional approval...and no one has said he was wrong for trying to get out of Afghanistan it is the way he did it...he OWNS that period

No it's entirely consequential - Trump was outsmarted by the Taliban, who very shrewdly agreed to no deaths in exchange for us leaving. That gave the US and others the appearance that things were calm, that the nation would be ok without a large US presence. "Look Ma no casualties!" By excluding the Afghan government from the talks he told the Taliban "you're in charge, no one else." And Biden did change it - he moved the departure to August from Trump's May date. Maybe it still wasn't enough time, maybe things still would have happened the way they did, who knows. Now the focus rightly needs to be on getting people out quickly. Time for finger pointing later. Leaving was the right thing to do - we all know it - its the planning and execution that sucked.

"Time for finger pointing later" as you try lo lay blame on Trump lol...and trying to deflect lol...you do know that Trump had planned for earlier than May but listened to the generals who asked him to put it off longer...no one is arguing about whether or not we should have withdrawn...we should have...but who takes the military out without evacuating the embassy and people first...I pray for those people trapped in there because the new plan is to get themselves to the airport if they can ...poor execution plain and simple

Not the poster but Trump had already drawn them down to 2500 just before leaving office, despite warning signs: Below is the timeline up until close to inauguration day 2021. Who was in charge until Jan 21st? He left out the legit Afghan government, and released thousands of extremists. I'm not letting Biden off the hook on poor execution, but yes Trump exacerbated what was already going to be a tough transition period.

Nov. 17, 2020 — Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller formally announces that the U.S. will reduce U.S. forces in Afghanistan to 2,500 by Jan. 15, 2021.

On the same day, the Defense Department IG’s office released a report for the quarter ending Sept. 30, 2020, that said the peace negotiations between the Afghan government and Taliban representatives had stalled and violence increased. “At the same time, the Taliban increased its attacks against Afghan forces, leading to ‘distressingly high’ levels of violence that could threaten the peace agreement,” the report said.

Dec. 2, 2020 — After past false starts, Afghan and Taliban negotiators agree on a framework to govern peace negotiations. “At the same time, the Taliban continued its ‘fight and talk’ strategy, increasing violence across the country to increase its leverage with the Afghan government in negotiations,” the Defense Department IG’s office said a quarterly report covering this period.

The IG report also continued to warn that the Taliban was apparently violating the withdrawal agreement. “This withdrawal is contingent on the Taliban abiding by its commitments under the agreement, which include not allowing terrorists to use Afghan soil to threaten the United States and its allies,” the report said. “However, it was unclear whether the Taliban was in compliance with the agreement, as members of al-Qaeda were integrated into the Taliban’s leadership and command structure.”

Jan. 15 — “Today, U.S. force levels in Afghanistan have reached 2,500,” Miller, the acting defense secretary, says in a statement. “[T]his drawdown brings U.S. forces in the country to their lowest levels since 2001.”

Afghanistan’s First Vice President Amrullah Saleh tells the BBC that the Trump administration made too many concessions to the Taliban. “I am telling [the United States] as a friend and as an ally that trusting the Taliban without putting in a verification mechanism is going to be a fatal mistake,” Saleh says, adding that Afghanistan leaders warned the U.S. that “violence will spike” as the 5,000 Taliban prisoners were released. “Violence has spiked,” he added.

We all agree getting out is the right thing to do, no? Trump yelled about it literally for YEARS. Yet if Biden hadn't gotten out as agreed upon the right would have criticized him for that also.

The UK is pissed off at joe, the taliban is already threatening the USA with ultimatums, who will align with the us as joe has demonstrated that we abandon our allys?

And here we thought Title Con had left the building with the new format

This was also Trump's plan - did he have one for getting military equipment out? No, because it isn't feasible logistically or economically to remove all of it. As has been noted we thought maybe the Afghan Army might fight a little, but they didn't, so that left even more equipment on hand.

Of course the Taliban is threatening ultimatums now. They want us OUT, they want all foreign nationals out. Italy, Germany even Americans all knew this deadline was coming so I can only garner so much sympathy. Why would you think waiting to the last minute is a good idea. Unless you were essential personnel you should have left ages ago. Turns out Stephen Miller helped scuttle he asylum/refugee application process which is why so many Afghans hadn't gotten out yet. Yes the exit plan was deeply flawed, but there were many factors that lead to this sh it show.

No, it’s what Trump’s own allies are telling us.

”Trump’s allies now denouncing his Taliban deal.”

THAT is going to leave a mark!

                      Qbwahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Namrita Haley, expected to be a GOP candidate for POTUS in 2024, has been notably critical, among other people.

Being from that part of the world, you would think con’s would give some credence to what she is saying. Namrita really knows her “sheethole” countries, yes?

you are forgetting a couple of things
Stephen miller hasnt been able to scuttle anything in our government for 8 months- so the visa problems are on Bidens state dept
The Afgans did fight and did die by the thousands until Biden snuck out of Bagram airbase without telling anyone- (seems to be an ongoing theme of his)- once they lost their air cover they knew it was over

so lets talk about westerners- he didnt contact any Foreign leaders about his little midnight run- thats why they are taking shots at him now publicly ( thats on Biden)
he left 10-15k Americans there including the embassy staff-- did stephen miller do that? did Trump? nope Biden
the British are going out and getting their citizens- we arent because the CIC wont let the military
the French are backing the new Northern Alliance- THE FN FRENCH !!!!!! - so embarrassing
Biden said it would always be painful to get out 100k- not at all if he actually started to do it, but he didnt (1000 ppl a day for 100 days, means he had to start in May)what was he worrying about in may? everything BUT his Fd up withdrawal plans

he has done such a bad job here, and its not just him, but the entire admin ,lying in Press conferences and interviews, being totally inept ,defensive and outright unprepared for the task
the checkpoints 50 yards from out forces are being manned by AQ-cant wait for his speech about "the war on terror" and how well he is doing

well Joe ,the taliban just told you to get the F out by August 31st or else- Joe better hire someone with some brains and some balls fast, because he doesnt have that guy right now

the world is laughing at us, questioning our leaders mental health, we have screwed our allies, left Americans to fend for themselves, lost the war on terror, made our enemies stronger, endangered our home soil all in 7 months
god knows what he can do in the next 41 months- what a disaster

this guy has been wrong on foreign policy for 50 years (he is perfect, ,always wrong) and you should really think about the reasons you voted for a guy that put America in this bad a spot

well seeing how well Joes plan has worked ,he should have delayed 2-5 years
everyone could have walked out on their own

Trump Administration Has Drastically Dropped Visas For Afghan And Iraqi Interpreters

"This administration is hostile to refugees," says Adam Bates, with the International Refugee Assistance Project.

Bates says in Iraq there is a backlog of more than 100,000 people now in the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program P-2 Direct Access Program. Last year about 200 were cleared — down from nearly 10,000 in 2016.

The number of Afghans getting visas also is slowing — down about 60% in recent years, Bates says. More than 4,000 were cleared in fiscal year 2017, compared with about 1,650 in 2018.

Trump continually cut the number of refugees allowed in - down to 15K when he left from a about 100K when Obama and Bush were in office.
