My Catholic church is very political. It is all anti abortion all the time . It us no wonder the pews are more and more empty every year.

Born and raised Catholic and served at the alter. Never heard my priest say anything anti abortion. I know what the Catholic Church thinks about it, but I am saying my local church never said a word. So I am guessing you are not catholic and just think that is what they do for an hour, preach about how bad abortions are.

Ps...my church never told me who to vote for either. Wish I could say the same for my labor union at work. No matter who is running, the democrat is always the one they say to vote for

The Chart shows Black Muslim groups too. The difference is .... the majority and I mean 99% of Democrats denounce their action or beliefs of such groups, in fact those black hate groups don’t like Dems & Republicans. Dems won’t allow a hate group in Congress spewing like Steve King does.

That is unusual in my experience. Been a member I'd several different parishes over the years and they all made it very clear what the " moral" choice was on election day in their view. And it was the anti abortion candidate one hundred percent if the time. That issue has taken over the church.

he at least has the balls to make a stand on an issue that the last 4 presidents have punted on
illegal immigration is a problem that has to be dealt with at some point-how to deal with it may be up for interpretation but a solution needs to be found

Whatever suggestion that might be offered, must it come at the cost of a government shutdown, furloughing 800,000 employees and putting their personal lives and the lives of their families in economic jeopardy?

Does he not have the power, with a stroke of his pen, put that issue to right and thus, gain even more leverage by putting the Democrats on the hot seat regarding immigration negotiations? How will they refuse to come to the table when they said they would if the shutdown were ended? How can they not work out a solution with him at that point? Do we agree that if that were to happen and they did not come to terms with the President, that they would be putting 2020 into even more difficulty to win?

Similarly, how can you not see the lack of empathy this President has for the average person in this country? How can you not see his vindictiveness and willingness to use his power to personally hurt his political foes? How can you not see the thousand of lies he has said over the last two years? How can you not hold him accountable for all of that?

Solutions to be discused:

- expanded temporary visas of a few years for unskilled workers. Vet them before they can come in, they are tracked, they pay taxes, they make one mistake beyond a parking tickets they have to go home. Any children born here are not US citizens (see below).
Once they finish they go back home and get in line again. Trump only wants rich college grad immigrants. Well, that's all well and good but the reality is we need cheap unskilled labor also. Create a system that works to lessen illegal entry.

- along with that expand and improve e-verification for employers to assure workers are legal to work here. Employers that knowingly violate the law face much more significant consequences than they do now.

- greatly improve tracking systems for visa overstays (the bigger part of the immigration issue) along with hiring far more border and ICE staff.

- amnesty DACA recipients already registered. They've been vetted, many are adults now with US born kids and never never know life outside the US.

- significantly reduce chain migration

- end birth right citizenship. One parent must be a US citizen.

Now doesn't this look like a great laundry list to form a new immigration policy from?

How do you propose implementing the change to birth right citizenship? Will this not take a Constitutional Amendment to do so? Will that not be the toughest issue to resolve in the end?

Should not any laundry list also include the disposition of those illegal immigrants currently in the country? How impractical and costly will it be to ferret them out? Yet, how can we ignore their criminal action and not have them face some form of accountability? Should we not be thinking of a program that entices them to come forth, face that justice, with the opportunity to stay and earn citizenship once they have paid their debt to our society, in whatever form or shape is ultimately determined best? Would it not make more sense then to focus our catch and deport efforts then on those who still choose to say here illegally and refuse to participate in such a program?
