Basketball is played everywhere. Keep thinking USA soccer falters because of technical training. USA soccer has a no chance with the wealthy club soccer system. And even those wealthy soccer kids would play football or basketball instead in hs if they could

I asked for the names of three professional baseball teams in England. I'll settle for one, though.

USA soccer has no chance because not enough American coaches know how to teach the real game that the Europeans and South Americans learn.

Well duh we realize that not all sports are played in every country. That wasn’t that statement you f&$ckin dolt. Baseball is played in Japan, basketball in Spain, football in Canada. But I realize you don’t understand the original statement so none of this will make sense to you. Just like the purpose of this thread. It’s about Oakwood. Many of the posts criticize it, the coaches, the parents, the players, the facilities, and whatever else everyone can think of. But one thing they all ignore. The club is still here and teaching kids how to play soccer. End of story. But I guess you won’t understand that either. So gave have mommy pour you a bowl of Fruit Loops. It’s time for dinner.

Poster was speaking of basketball not baseball. Basketball is very popular internationally and growing. That's why the NBA is trying to expand into China etc. Baseball is popular in some countries but has a limited ability to grow...too boring, long. Both sports attract top international players because the NBA and MLB are considered the pinnacle. For soccer the top European leagues are the pinnacle. We send a few players there, even fewer reach the top and have big careers. Our MLS league is where international academy rejects and seen to be retirees come to play

Meant to add: yes talent identification in the country is terrible. The pricey pay to play system is part of that, poor coaching too, along with the popularity of our top 3 sports. Kids want to play what their friends play, support teams their families and friends support.

They all want to be famous. And let’s face the facts. Every day we see the other sports in the news, advertised everywhere in stores and huge contracts in the US. Soccer doesn’t give that here. Not unless your kid goes to Oakwood the best club in the land! Join us!!!

Clueless if you think the issue is coaching and technical Training. Girls seem to do fine because the top Female Athletes play soccer. On the men’s side soccer is way down the list of where top athletes go. And the ridiculous pay huge money to play model shrinks the pool even more. Anyone who thinks a bunch of undersized teens from Greenwich are the correct talent pool to “train” into pros is sorely Mistaken.

Baseball is the best comparison. Hardcore Baseball kids do the exact same thing. They all get technical Training on the expensive travel teams and at younger ages they can outperform a lot of other kids that don’t get the extra training. Then once they hit high school age size speed and strength all take over. The technical training advantage they had at 12 years old goes away. There is no way to train anyone into a pro type athlete. Those elite types are born that way. And as they get older their natural ability takes over and the young training advantage goes away. The only thing that will get us men’s soccer better is a bigger talent pool playing soccer. Until that happens any arguments about coaching are pointless. We have plenty of freak athletes in the us. They just aren’t playing soccer. You can’t train size speed and strength.

Its frustrating and very simple. Our best female athletes play soccer and basketball. Who is number 1 internationally in those 2 sports?

Our best male athletes DO NOT play soccer and thus they are further behind in soccer. We have always and will always depend on a few world class players its usually been an attacking player and a keeper. The rest are blue collar players. That should always be good enough to at least qualify for the WC.

Yes recently we have more americans playing on top teams in europe but they are still young and still need time to grow together.

Tonight should be a good test but even then we are not fielding our best 11

It has absolutely nothing to do with the coaching. The US is such a desirable place that any good international coach would drop everything to come here IF the demand and talent was here. As you point out, it isn’t. Soccer on the men’s side is at best the 4th most popular sport over here and as such, gets the 4th best athletes.

Women is a different story. The demand is there. The coaching is there. The athletes are there. And we remain number 1 after decades at the top. You don’t see the dominance of the US women on the men’s side. The pay to play system has nothing to do with anything. Talented poor kids all get free rides at every club. No talented kid is ever left behind. That’s a fallacy. If you’re good enough, you’ll get the opportunity. If not, pay to play might get you a look, but ultimately, if you aren’t good enough, it will end right there.

Not the poster, but no. Our advantage on the women's side has been D1 athletics. Females playing abroad had fewer paths. Now other countries and pro teams have been investing heavily in the women's game. Other countries are quickly catching up, may even pass us soon. Many of our top female players are going abroad rather than languish in the NWSL. That narrowing gap was one reason USSF started GDA, but that worked out swimmingly
