Ow covers eastern CT to Norwich-ish, north to MA, south to the shore, and west maybe to Farmington for ulittles. Tryouts feature a lot of kids, and many go home without a spot on the team.

At U14-16, the geographic draw widens, but not by much. Certainly not by as much as you seem to think.

I am not going to say you might have the odd crazy parent taking their 9yr old to OW from that far away but it is not the norm. Most parents at that age aren't going to drive 50 miles each way to go to OW. Not sure what tryouts you were at but there were very few kids there that weren't on the team already. You might be confusing OW ulittle tryouts with FSA.

Again, most kids on the ulittle team are from Glastonbury and surrounding area. Glastonbury does not have the best athletes in CT, it is only because that is where they are located. Older teams in DA have kids (and parents) willing to travel to be in the DA. Most sane parents don't care about preacademy status and some, those parents that don't/didn't play soccer but the want to play the game comes from their kid, don't even know what DA or OW is at that age.

For example, I have talked to parents with kids on the DA team from MA and NY. One came from upstate NY to play OW. There aren't and kids from MA or NY on ulittle. And while I can't say I have talked to all parents of ulittle I only know of only one kid that comes from more than 30 miles away.

You guys know how small CT is, right? Farmington, New Haven, and Norwich are all 30 miles or less from Portland.

These posts have been about boys and DA and it is true, they come from that far. I was really shocked. Can't comment on the girls side except I would believe most sane ulittle girls parents wouldn't drive past any decent club to go to OW at 9 yrs old. Crazy soccer parent would, I do believe that, but parents wishing the kid was good doesn't make it so.

I have observed that this is another academy rule that OW ignores.

DA only requires 25% starts, not PT. Even with sub rules players get started then yanked. Or they only start the easy games. OW isnt the only DA club that thinks rules are more of a suggestion than an absolute.

Even if the geographic pull was theoretically the same at u10 as u14 there will be a lot more kids trying out for u14 to get into DA then try out at u10.

If your logic was correct then what you are saying is kids that tried out for OW and got cut at u10 went to another club and then back to OW at u14 and made it. Is that how your kid did it?

No. Very strong player, has confidence, and gets a ton of playing time. OW house players seem a little timid.
