And he still got canned. It seems to be a different era for Yale now, and I don't suspect the next coach will get a quarter of a century to right that ship, so they better do a much better job recruiting players right out of the gate. Will be tough to bale the water from that tug boat with only small buckets born, raised, and trained within 45 minutes of their port.

Thanks but I don't watch UCONN hoops at all. Just wondering because it would seem that each year as more recruits come it would get harder to get playing time if you didn't start out with at least a decent amount freshman year. Like I said, I'm new to all of this.

If you really want to answer your question. The data is out there. every D1 school in the nation publishes game statistics for every player by game and by year. Every program is different with their approach. You aren't going to get a concise answer on here but you can come to your own conclusions by simply looking at historical data for schools that your kid in interested in.

PS The UConn hoops was just an example. Aside from timed events (Track, swimming) playing time is at the discretion of the coach. I've seen slender college freshman that don't play pack on 20 pounds of muscle in a year and then never come off the field as a sophomore. There's really not a way to answer your question.

With five on the court basketball is a somewhat different animal when it comes to PT vs soccer. While not always the case, a soccer frosh should be getting some decent minutes. Doesn't have to be starting and it's fine if it is easier games. Then if Pt isn't improving substantially in sophomore year you're in real trouble.

Wrong. The number of people on a basketball team (including the bench) is much smaller than that of a soccer team. So it’s exactly the same

Well, in basketball overtimes are played until someone wins. So they are different.

                        Sure!

Holding supplemental tryouts for "elite" teams tells you everything that you need to know.

                        What a disaster.

The "best" don't go to cattle call tryouts. They don't need to.
