What does that even mean though? The clubs have a league and they cant-all be let into ecnl, so theyre doing somethibg else.

Yes, a B+ league like NPL was before. Only now there's ECLR, NPL (still trying to remain relevant) and top bracket EDP teams all vying for similar players - only many of those have less travel and expense.

So if your kid plays ecnl it doesnt matter because she’s already in the “A” league and if youre an ecnl club staff member then its just a league that other clubs play in (from whoch ecnl can poach) and again shouldnt matter. Since ecnl has no problem finding enough players to field full teams, im not sure why anyone from that side cares about GA at this point. It would only make sense if ecnl wanted to bring those GA clubs in and change their structure a bit but the way it appears, ecnl staff and parents want the league and clubs playing in it to completely fold.

Ultimately they're trying to set up a national system of A (ECNL) and B (ECLR) leagues with teams that perform getting moved up, underperformers down. That would make it tougher for other B leagues to compete for players. It's a smart move on their part.

If ECNL club owners are a bit happy with GALs demise, well it's business and all the clubs are battling over market share. GDA wanted to put ECNL out of business. All the adults in these leagues keep forgetting It's the kids that suffer getting jerked around all the time

I can understand the goal of tiering but what i am bothered by (and was by ussf wanting to kill ecnl) is that no one pays attention to whether the decisions are long term intelligent. Killing a competitor makes sense only some of the time and in an age where kids are playing less sports and theres more fragmentation in what we can pay attention to, i think its a really bad decision to do anything that potentially reduces the number of kids playing. If the facade of being elite keeps some kids in the game through HS, i am fine with that. I dont get actively trying to do things that will likely reduce total pool. These kids are tomorrows soccer parents, and these decisions do impact the sport years down the road as well.

Promotion and relegation can't happen if each club puts in an A team and a B team. If your too league has 20 teams you need 20 teams from other clubs to make it viable. No club puts the same resources to B teams .... It's silly. If ECNL dropped the ECRL and started GA in those ECRL spots for 2 spots in every conference in the ECNL every year then you might have something legit. Stop the BS and charades and make this happen. Anyone opposed to this is chickensh!t and in it for the money.

Oakwood should just enjoy their 3rd tier league.

There are fewer kids playing soccer - numbers have been down the last four years running. Eventually the market figures it out and a new equilibrium is found. Part of the problem right now is there are too many fancy high priced, travel-intensive leagues fighting over the same player group. What is needed are more moderately priced, less travel-heavy leagues. That would help keep more playing.

What makes no sense is that Oakwood is willing to sacrifice a potentially good age team (2007) by playing the players up on 06. Why not just keep the kids on age and make the GA improve by having the best on age teams. Makes no sense.

Not enough players on the team for that age

Friends of ours said the 08 team lost this weekend to the last place team in the GA. Said it was one of the worst games they have seen.

playing 07 birth year is not good enough for those parents. that's why 3 07s left last year because even the 06 group wasn't good enough and they demanded more.
