Most BS parents can afford BS fees and college tuition. College coaches won't waste precious scholarship dollars or favors with the admissions office on players they don't forsee playing much. The parents got to brag about their kids for a few months until reality sets in. Hopefully they're at the schools they really wanted

Any parent (BS or any other team) who has their kids play on a premier or academy team in the hopes of getting into a good college or a scholarship is an absolute moron. If you want your kid to get into a good college, spend the money on Kumon, Kaplan, Princeton Review and other supplemental programs. It is infinitely easier to get admitted to a top school based on academics than sports... especially a sport like soccer.

If you need a scholarship, spend the time researching the tens of millions of dollars of ACADEMIC scholarships that go unclaimed every year.

I can't speak for other parents, but my kid plays premier because he loves the sport and loves playing with other good kids who love the sport. If he plays in college, awesome. If he doesn't nobody will care. What I do know is that if he stayed with Travel and continued to play on a team where most games it was him vs. the opponent, he would have quit soccer by now.

For our family, having him play a sport he loves, at a high level, with a good group of boys who also love the sport and compete hard is worth the money. I'm not looking for a return on the money based on some mythical scholarship. My ROI is know he got to compete at a high level in a sport he loves and learned lessons about hard work, practice, perseverance, adversity, etc. You don't get that in town soccer.

Finally someone with a common sense post. Well said.

I played D3 soccer at a top school on a partial scholarship... and I sat on the bench most of my 4 years. How? I found an academic scholarship for "well rounded kids". I was getting $10K/ year as long as I had a GPA above 3.25, was on an active roster, and majored in engineering, science, or math. It was a scholarship started a very wealthy retired executive who felt that being on a sports team was the key to his success in life. One of my teamates had a very similar scholarship. There are TONS AND TONS of scholarships like this... now more than ever.

What's the story on the 2006 BS boys team from last year? I heard a bunch of the players went to FUSA.

Don't know about last year's team. I heard this year's 06 Academy has over 20 players and plays 2 teams. I wonder if all the families leaving caused them to "accept" more kids into academy as a way to keep some families.

The 06 team from last year was decimated which had 27 kids. More then half left the organization for various reasons " Different forum discussion" . They currently have 20 kids or so on the academy which will drop next year and they can barely field a 06 premier team. The kids that left went to the following teams, NYCFC, NYSC, CFC, FUSA, Red bulls and other premier clubs. All in all from what i understand the kids/parents that left are very happy which is all that matters. last years group was a special talent which BS will probably not see in a very long time.

That team is one of the best teams to ever come through BS. Problems with coaches, MK, and overall organization of pool style teams led to family departures. That mass exodus put a massive dent in the pipeline.

Lol yes the kids are very young and some won't even be playing soccer in a few years. But a mass exodus is rarely a good thing
