I would recommend calling a few HS coaches. They see players coming from all the clubs and can offer an opinion. Unless your kid is the next Christian Pulisic, you are probably looking for a program that will do a good job of teaching skills, tactics, and teamwork. HS coaches see kids trying out as freshmen and often times can identify the kid's club just by watching what they do on the field *AND* how they behave off the field.
Some coaches may have a tighter connection with a local club, so I would call at least 2-3 coaches and ask for at least 2-3 recommendations.
Finally, as others have posted GO TO PRACTICES. Most clubs post practice schedules on websites and the facilities are all open to the public. Just simply watch. Watch how engaged the coaches are. Watch how kids behave. Watch the tempo of the practice. Watch how coaches interact with the weaker kids on the team and how they work with the stronger players. If you like what you see, approach the coach and ask if your kid can join a future practice.

1- Revolution - best coaches around, partnered with a pro team from Spain and have Fairfield U coaches in their staff. Goalkeeper coach is from Fairfield U as well (Keepermax) less expensive than others
2- Everton - some ok coaching, goalkeeper coach is good, (not sure if partners with Everton Pro team) the quality of players is not so good. Expensive
3- Fusa premier: Kick and run travel/premier team. Coaching is not good, only a tech coach is good then you have mediocre helpers and most are parents coaches
4- Phytons - bad coaches, good indoor facilities, price is not bad. Kick and run club. Omar is not half owner of beachside. Practices in Waterbury and Stamford until 9:30 pm in a weekday
5- Beachside premier - worst of all premiers in the area. Coaches are the same coaches from phytons and is expensive. Practices in Waterbury and Stamford until 9:30 pm in a weekday
Beachside academy - Only if your kid is at the academy level, but still if you are going to an academy, go to one from an MLS club. Practices in Waterbury and Stamford until 9:30 pm in a weekday

Beachside just posted a second round of tryouts for the 2007 Academy age and younger premier teams. First tryouts were the beginning of April. Haven't heard anything yet, now are we going to have to wait till the end of May?
