Separation time....
Hello all,
I think at the end of the day so much has changed so fast. The development of and hyper favoritism to the MLS Academies from the DA has changed the landscape forever in US Soccer (and maybe for the best as it pertains to developing players, but certainly for the worst as it pertains to the overall DA system).
MLS Academies are free (DA likes that)
MLS Academies train MORE (DA likes that)
But at the end of the day, all of the MLS teams are the BEST teams in the DA. The US National team will take all of their players from existing MLS Academy teams. The DA has and will continue to be the elite crop by which colleges recruit from. As a father of a DA player, I'm very comfortable with that.
The question though is do you NEED the DA to get to college, or get a piece of the ever shrinking scholarship dollar, and the answer is absolutely 100% NO, you do not; but it makes it easier.
You see the beauty of recruitment for college is that its much easier to get spotted if you're on a GREAT team. So all of the MLS players will get recruited, but what about MY KID? So gone are the days of all these DA clubs having great teams. In fact the exact opposite is occurring right now.
This team looses its best center mid fielder and right back to NYCFC
That team looses its best center back and winger to the Red Bulls
Both teams are now weaker, both teams need to get stronger and there just isn't the TOWN TRAVEL kid to fill in and do the same job at the same level. So the two teams merge. No, the clubs don't merge, the PLAYERS merger. The invisible hand at work moves the best remaining kids to play with the best remaining kids. In one birth year they may move to World Class, in another birth year they may move to New York Soccer Club, in another birth year they move to FC Westchester.
This is happening already, as it begins with mass defections from clubs at the younger DA levels, and then the results are evaluated. Once the results show the merits of the approach, it will be like a tidal wave in the years to come .... the QUESTION that needs to be answered here, as it pertains to Beachside, is are they are on the outside looking in? New York Soccer Club, FC Westchester, and World Class have clear and unmistakable advantages .... if they try and compete with those three in this new soccer era, they'll get slaughtered.
MLS teams are viewed by Beachside as PREDATORS, the other clubs choose not to fight the 1000 pound gorilla, and embrace the opportunity to advance their players. In return, players that fade out of the MLS programs (be it for talent or dedication reasons) go to the supporting clubs (even if they came from Beachside originally).
There is an expression in youth soccer in Fairfield County, that goes like this, ONCE YOU DRIVE SOUTH TO A SESSION, YOU'RE ALL DONE WITH DRIVING AGGRESSION. OK I just made that up, but the point is that driving North sucks.
What kind of relationship does Beachside have with Oakwood? If they were smart, they would merge. What kind of relationship does Beachside have with CFC? If they were smart they would merge.
Beachside can't stand on its own anymore..... they have no advantages that they once held. The new DA super teams are being built, and they are not being built at Beachside!
I'm telling you all.... Beachside is DONE! They have no adaptability skills and no comparative advantage to offer anyone.
Lets all give a nice warm golf clap to the soon to be GONE Beachside soccer Club.
