Stop with the sporting nonsense. Sporting is a ulittle
club. There isn’t one HS girls team at sporting that is even competitive in EDP. If you can’t succeed in high level EDP and at least play in large tourneys like Jeff cup and pda then you are a travel club. That is really all you have to look at with these clubs. The argument ends there. Can your High School teams compete at a high level? If they can’t you are basically a ulittle travel club. The sportings Ginga vale etc can barely field teams at the high school level. And they certainly aren’t competitive by then. The same things happens year after year. Their hs teams are just a few remaining kids that may be playing d3. And they barely have enough players. They fill in their teams by bringing up younger kids. The 2 Ecnl teams, oakwood and then on the EDP side only rush select and Yankee can compete regionally in high school. If you are at the other clubs don’t fall for the marketing nonsese. Get out while you can or junior year you will figure it out and it will be too late

With that, shift your college expectations. Some EDP players can move into college soccer but you'll see far fewer than the big leagues. It also will be tend to be much lower level. Absolutely fine it that's the right level for your player. Fit matters most. But also consider that being sen by college programs will be tougher than ECNL/GAl. Again, it can be done but you need to plan well if that's the path your player wants to take.

Obviously Ecnl is the top dog for college identification. And cfc is well ahead of fsa. Gal and EDP are much
less clear. It almost becomes a team by team basis. Not club by club If you are in EDP on a team that can play nationally for EDP and play in Jeff cup pda or Susa tourneys In high brackets you can get plenty of exposure. It all depends if your particular team can hang at that level. Staying at only gal events won’t get as much exposure. And staying at EDP only tourneys will get even less exposure.

Good post. Parents of younger players don't realize what a tight funnel it is with talent going into High school. The better players on "top" middle school teams will almost always jump ship to the higher leagues before U15 (or so). All it takes is losing a 1-3 of your top starters for things to start to fall apart. Then a few kids going into the HS ages decide to focus on other things and drop out. I wouldn't say non ECNL or GAL teams are all "travel level" per se, but yes you do need to be very careful what you chose. IF ECNL/GAL isn't a good fit for your player at least aim for a top EDP club if possible.

The biggest marketing scam at some of these clubs is when they talk about what percentage of their oldest team plays in college. Not a Ginga parent but I get their marketing stuff from some clinics my kid went to a while back. They advertise 70 percent of their kids play in college. Which technically may be true. But I know a bunch of kids on their oldest team. They have very few kids left in the program at that age group. Most have dropped off. They end up with 7-8 kids at the oldest age and most are the ones playing d3 somewhere and stayed just to play locally to stay in shape. So their actual percentage of kids say on their 8th grade team that really played in college is a fraction of 70 percent. More like 20 percent ish. And the younger parents don’t realize that
