The Santa Fe Corner is back for another season as try outs have started today.
There was a good turn out for two days this morning including about 20 Freshman. I don't know how coach Nick Miller is going to handle the big influx of new blood above and beyond the varsity squad where there appears to be perhaps a few spots up for grabs. Will there also be a junior varsity team or perhaps an All-Freshmen team as well?
The varsity squad has lost eight seniors from last year, namely Alan Snyder, Reid Monyhan, Abhay Kharuna, Zack Jackson, Nila Guzman, Govi Allin, Jaggy Rivera and Qwitty Nicoloff. We will miss them and wish them well. Hopefully some will show up for a few games this season.
Although the team started fast and performed admirably last year, they faded in the middle of the season and bowed out of the districts early to a Middleburg team they beat twice during the regular season. Give all the credit to Middleburg who stepped up when it really counted. This year Santa Fe aims for defending District Champion Ridgeview in hopes of taking the crown from them. The district playoffs will be held at Santa Fe High School for the first time in five years.
This year my policy will be not to respond to the few antagonizers that appear on this site with malice and ill will. They will be treated just as those do who run onto fields seeking attention during sporting contests, with due neglect. I also ask those who want to participate intelligently on this forum to do the same. This is a thread for those interested in the Santa Fe Raider's soccer journey this year, for better or worse. Many of the Raiders go into this season with high hopes. Time will tell what they will be able to accomplish. As long as they put their best effort forward and show due respect to their opponents, coaches, referees and fans, it will be a successful season no matter the results.
