    Eastside 2
    Santa Fe 1

Great game tonight. Unfortunately, Santa Fe let up the game winner at the 75th minute. Thomas Zimmerman willed the Rams to victory. It was a very exciting game played in the rain. More details later.

Why did the game get cancelled with Bucholz? Did Coach Lloyd back out?

i don't know what coach miller did with the santa fe defense at the last week or two of practice but i was at the GHS v. Santa Fe game and the only thing that held the tie was the D who were able to hold off a complete offensive onslaught from GHS. that # 4 was great at winning the corners which there must have been twenty of in the last 20 min. i wonder how good you guys could be with mathura back on that D.

            Buchholz cited too many injuries.

Yeah, the defense has come through. #4 is D.D. Knighten (the guy who won all those headers); #15 is Austin Bishop (Eastside scored the winning goal after he came out with an injury); # 7 is Nitai Diniz (this guy plays hard all the time); and # 16 is Dakota Quinn (He has stepped it up and played very well with his speed, size and aggression). Yeah, we miss Mathura. We miss him very much. Still, Santa Fe has stepped up to the challenge and I hope they keep it up through Districts.

The goalie Justin White has played awesomely the last couple of games.

Tonight Districts for Class 4a, District 3 commence. They will be held at Santa Fe Stadium in Alachua. The first game pits the number 1 seed Santa Fe Raiders vs. the number 4 seed Suwannee Bulldogs. Game time is 5 p.m. The second game starts at 7 p.m. and features the number 2 seed Ridgeview Panthers vs. the number 3 seed Middleburg Broncos.

The Raiders were 5-1-0 in conference play and 12-5-1 overall. They won both games they played against Suwannee, winning the first contest 4-2 at home, and the second one 5-0 in Live Oak. Ridgeview and Middleburg split their two games with each other this year.

The last two years, Santa Fe has bowed out in the semis, after overlooking their opponent. This time, the boys have taken special care not to let history repeat itself. The players have been very focused in practice, repeating the theme, "One game at a time."

During the season the Raiders have only lost one game at home, a 2-1 defeat at the hands (or should I say feet) of the Eastside Rams. Besides that nail-biter, their record has been perfect. The fact that they are playing at home gives them a little added sense of confidence. "I hope our fans turn out big time for us this week," said one of the players.

Statistically, Thakura Borrero leads the Raiders with 10 goals and 10 assists on the season. Syami Erving has 6 goals and 8 assists, while Shyam Allard has recorded 7 goals and 6 assists. Other offensive contributors include Quentin Polly with 6 goals and 7 assists, and Josh DeGrove with 7 goals and 1 assist. Joey O'Brien is still up there with team leaders with 8 goals and 2 assists, despite playing in only about half the team's games. Shyam Allard leads the team with 179 steals. D.D. Knighten ranks 2nd on the team with 73. Rounding out the top five are Nitai Diniz with 66, Syami Erving with 63, and Austin Bishop with 61. D.D. Knighten leads non-keepers with 5 saves. Shyam Allard and Nitai Diniz have recorded 3 each.

In 13 games this year, Justin White has converted 80 out of 90 save opportunities for a 89 percent success ratio.

In the category of game-efficiency rating, which combines steals, turnovers, goals, assists and saves, Shyam Allard leads the team with a 8.82 rating per game. D.D. Knighten is second with a rating of 3.22, Syami Erving is third at 2.64, Naveen Allin is fourth at 2.33, and Josh DeGrove rounds out the top five with a 2.00 rating per game.

This year the Raiders have outshot their opponents by a margin of 344-233. They have outscored them by an even more impressive 61-21.

The winners of tonight's games play each other for the District Title on Friday at 7 p.m.

                      District 2 Class 4a Semi (1/22/08):

                      Santa Fe 2
                      Suwannee 1

The Raiders held onto a 2-1 victory last night vs. Suwannee, after going up 2-0 on goals by Thakura Borrero and Josh DeGrove, and then letting up a goal in the 69th mintue last night at Raider Stadium.

Suwannee, who has played better as of late, was just not strong enough to score the equalizer.

Chay Jansen, who hasn't played in two months, filled in nicely for the injured Justin White at goal.

In the other semi-final contest, Ridgeview ended Middleburg's season with a 4-2 victory. The game was also played at Santa Fe.

Santa Fe (13-5-1) will play Ridgeview (10-10-1) Friday, January 25 at 7pm for the District Championship. The game will also be held at Raider Stadium.
