SB are geographically isolated and can't get kids from central and western Suffolk to drive up there for training. It's less of a program issue and more of a location issue.

Well it appears we didn't know what this meant until yesterday when Surf were named as a reserve team for the Sky Blue. http://www.skybluefc.com/sky-blue-fc...-reserve-team/
That's huge and they are now the only ones to have such a pathway to pro women soccer. Big snub to PDA. I tip my hat to NY Surf as they now have the most college coaches on staff and an actual pro reserve team (first match against Western NY Flash). I think we underestimated Kim, Sue, and Meghan here and congrats to their board for having the patience to execute all they have done in the past year. They certainly are not done and would be wise to continue the open book approach to keep developing a solution for NY Metro youth soccer.

Yawn ... it does help more than a handful of players

As One of its amateur reserve teams. Does that mean more are coming

We are honored that Sky Blue FC has selected the NY Surf UWS program as one of its amateur reserve teams,” said Matt Popoli, founder and President of NY Surf. “In order to ensure that our UWS team trains and plays at the highest level, we have assembled one of the finest coaching staffs in United Women’s Soccer.”

This will not help getting the top players. Being in C and D leagues you will get C and D players. Surf just bought their way into the Sky Blue affiliation. PDA didn't deem it necessary to do so. I mean where would you want your kid to be with PDA or Surf? And this is a rhetorical question.

Kudo's to Surf for creating this team. But to keep things in perspective, it is not an actual "pro reserve team". It's amateur, there are no contracts or player salaries involved. Think of it more as a place where girls can play competitively in their late teens/early twenties without having to go to college. The players actually good enough to have realistic aspirations to play for the national team or to earn a pro salary would be playing in college or already be on the actual pro squads as the depth in the women's pro game is terrible.

                  As for the college

Just trying to buy credibility. It's quite a turnoff. Try doing it the right way and build a program.

theyvare the only building a program by investing in coaching - NYSC should learn from them!

As best I can tell, the SkyBlue affiliation is simply a marketing tool. The UWS team is not tied to the actual SkyBlue team in anyway. It will be made up of high level college players, and other semi-pro type players like every other UWS team is but wont be a "pathway" as some suggest.

Sky Blue affiliates to draw more ticket purchases. The club affiliates to show a "potential path" post-youth club soccer. Nothing more than mutually beneficial marketing activities.

Nope - Sky Blue reserves will indeed play on the team just like WNYFlash's reserves play on their UWS team - both teams round off with amateurs. NY Surf will run the team and will feed the amateur side thus the pathway. No youth club has this in NY.

Yawn. Surf will take the best amateurs regardless of their club affiliation.

To think some Surf player would get precedent over a high level college or ECNL players is laughable. Perhaps if that player was equal in talent the Surfer would get the nod. frankly that level of talent doesn't exist.
