It doesn't prove or disprove anything. Both sides of this are so ridiculous it is not worth a 16 page explanation of why comparing game scores is not the right way to judge a coach, club, team or kids. Maybe at the pros, but not at youth. The person defending Kyle may be a supportive parent or may be Kyle himself, either way you are an idiot to try to throw wins and losses of 12 years out as a trophy of achievements for a coach. It quite literally is what makes soccer in the US horrible. Those that are trying to throw Kyle under the bus are obviously parents that had a bad time on his team. Kyle may have cut their precious kid or benched them or maybe he is a complete a hole and the worst coach in the world. Or maybe he is the best coach in the world and just wronged one parent. For the rest of us my personal opinion is treat these posts like Amazon reviews. Try to look for repeating patterns of pros or cons of a club or coach while understanding that once you find a pattern of positive or pattern of negative it is probably still 50% accurate.

Kyle is disingenuous, has created a revolving door in the SU coaching ranks and is not doing anything to improve soccer at SU.
Oh, I forgot, to fill his ego there was the Jimmy and Kyle show on Youtube. Bravo.

I find this extremely difficult for coaches across the board, and not something the clubs care about training. Many clubs don't have "how to respectfully cut kids at tryouts training" They just leave it up to the coach. Most coaches probably haven't read Emotional Intelligence 2.0 and are just bad at it. It's similar to veterinarians. they love working with animals and are not trained on the people side. Even though 60% of their job is to run a business and deal with people. Soccer coaches probably love soccer and are trying to do the best they can but are terrible at the how to deal with kids side of it.

This thread is getting out of hand. Too many parents looking at wins/losses to decide if a youth coach is good at their job. The coach’s job is to make players better, no? I can’t look at a league website and tell if a coach is doing a good job with all players on the team or not. Can you? Why are you all so fixated on league W/D/L records? There is a lot of unjustified arrogance at SU and almost all of it is a reflection of those in charge like Kyle and Jimmy. There are terrible A license coaches and fantastic unlicensed coaches. But you should judge them for the positive improvement they produce for every player in their charge. By that standard, I suspect the conversation would be different, enlightening and likely worse for Kyle.

Soccer might be very different from youth american football and basketball, in that training that maximizes the best development doesn't help you win at the youth level. Honestly learning possession and playing out from the back will certainly lead to more loses at the youth level. I don't believe american football and basketball has this unique situation.

It is about making the best player out of each kid, at least at the higher levels. I don't see much of the older kid games, but I witness lots of the younger teams (like 13 and lower) playing very direct soccer instead of building a play. It does work but it doesn't make them the best players possible.

Next year, new coach, but new coach didn't give up. They got moved down a division but this year it came together. Their last few games really emphasized this and how far they've come. They only lost 1 game this year, against a team who brought in a kid who I'm not sure wasn't an older sibling using their player card (no kidding). Their ringer scored some goals because of their size and direct style of play, but our team really worked the ball. They are moving back up a division next year, and they've earned it. They will be dangerous in a couple of years, and I'm really glad the coach stuck with it.
And playing out of the back is not actually a possession game so kickball clubs should be able to adopt it easily with a few changes. Playing out of the back can still be get forward attacking tactics, give and gos, through ball soccer that starts with playing out of the back, and attempts to play on the ground to feet but always forward. It doesn't take much brilliance to adopt playing out of the back, but that would be a good starting point for all clubs to figure out. True possession and the philosophy of possession is a discussion for a different post. The word possession soccer is thrown around to much. Pac is a great example of a structured get forward play system that starts in the back but is not possession.
