EFC doesn't have a “playing style” coaches are allowed to implement any playing style they want and will implement the style they prefer.

    For better or for worse.

This is in stark contrast to Pac which has a distinct playing style. I have discussed this first hand from families that have moved from EFC to Pac for this very reason. A new coach was coming in and they didn't like the formation or playing style that was being implemented. Whomever is posting these things are completely ignorant.

While I prefer the way Pac engrains a playing style at an early age, my daughter di go onto college and played on a team with a very direct style of play. It was a significant transition. To say one style is better or worse is moronic. I can name just as many epl and Bundesliga teams that play more direct than tiki taka. 4 of the teams in champions league play direct.

    You are a moron.
"these shots are dumb" and then you call someone "a moron"? Ok, Pac Karen

I too am a former EFC parent, and the above comment is mostly accurate.. Each coach brings his or her own style of play to the team. The problem I realized after being there for two years is that the next coach above that your kid ends up with may have a playing style that is completely different than the younger age group coach.

Another post mentioned EFC likes big and slow kids. I don't agree about the slow part, but they did seem to favor large body players.

Though you say bootball shouldn't be considered an insult as it is just direct play. You have to admit, there is a difference between aimlessly punting everytime versus kicking it to your teammates.

Having every third coach change the style of play as your kid ages up CAN be problematic.

I watched about 20 minutes of this game and it was pretty stark to see the different styles of play between PAC and EFC. They didn't always succeed but you could tell that PAC was at least trying to keep the ball and control the pace of the game.

Hard to argue with that exhibition. Good enough for the kids who are in it for fun or parent's bragging rights when it yields a victory. To each is own.

Again, Pac parent here. To be completely honest, most teams will play a direct, attacking, high press style against us hoping to break us down. What you see in the video is common and not limited to EFC.

Why are you so hung up on EFC?

This thread is proof there is a serious youth soccer “bubble” in Seattle. It’s just the same d**k measuring contest between XFire, SU, EFC, PacNW parents. There is much more to youth soccer than just these clubs and much better options. They may have thousands of players and tons of money, but certainly not the best ideas or coaches.

Don't disagree but what do you propose? How is it any different in PSPL? How would playing in a less competitive league be “better”? Because the coaching is superior?

The OP’s question was about a good “team”, not a club or league. What makes a good team? That’s probably a good starting point.

OP did not ask about a “good” team. They asked about “smart” and “ambitious”. Smart probably refers to the coach and ability to teach. So who are the smart coaches. “Ambitious” Can mean many things. I guess it depends on what the coach is ambitious about. Winning, traveling, teaching, developing? I what should a smart coach be ambitious about?

I'll put crossfire premiers Lindsay Elston near the top. Her G08 ECNL team is outstanding. She coached the 07's as well up until this year and they beat the 06 ECNL handily at the start of the season.

My kids not on her team, but I often watch part of her session if I'm at the field, and you can't deny the results on the field.

If I was listing the 08 coaches I would rank Scott Ford at WPFC as the top 08 coach followed by Xinho Prestes as #2.

Can't deny the XF 08 team success on the field as Lindsay has done a great job of recruiting the best players at the age group.

In addition, Lindsay gave up the 07s after the summer tournaments 2 years ago. Justi has totally redone that team and is responsible for their victory over the 06s,

Thank you - that has to be the funniest thing I've read today. I've known Lindsay since she started at XF, and thus far she's been reaping the benefits of other coaches' hard work. That 07 team has been together as a unit with a single coach for 5 years preceding Lindsay's entry - that's what built the team.

Not knocking her - XF hasn't necessarily done a great job developing her as a coach who can then develop young players, but be careful correlating how a team plays with a current coach without knowing the background.
