I really hate these "Keep Soccer Sh***y" comments. Like, if you think the sport should operate with integrity, you're a fool. At the same time, I get it. Soccer in Seattle sucks and it won't change anytime soon

The bare minimum clubs should have sorted out before rolling with virtual tryouts is a clear, coherent description of whether and how they were revising financial aid. With unemployment at historically high levels (likely higher even than the depths of the Great Depression), and pretty much anyone who isn�t on a salary from a big company (ranging from anyone in sales or marketing, any business owner, most doctors and lawyers and financial advisors, etc) facing huge drops in income, and in many cases to basically zero for the first half of this year, the reality is there will be a lot more financial need than there was last year, and that clubs� stated financial aid policies do not come close to allowing families to meaningfully assess the issue.

XF is a bit unique in that they provide funding for all on their top teams in the oldest ages, and supposedly even for some young ages will waive fees based on talent, but other clubs don�t do that. SU, which has an overall fairly good written policy, for instance says financial aid is only available to those with family income for last year at 2x the qualifying amount for free school lunch. But of course last year�s tax returns aren�t even due til July, and a lot of families� current economic circumstances are now a lot different than they were at year end. Asking families to make commitments and plunk down deposits without knowing whether and how much financial aid they may get just isn�t right, and nor is trying to dupe families into believing these commitments are actually binding or that the clubs have any real limit on their ability to add to and modify ECNL rosters as they please.

Yes, the clubs are businesses. But the way this has all been handled is a crappy way to run any business and not good for the long term development of the local soccer ecosystem.

In Washington ... the clubs decided to move up tryouts by more than two weeks with little advance notice they were doing so (05 and olders for ECNL and RCL and US Club were supposed to be next week), to have a recruiting free for all in the form of a virtual fantasy league draft, and to force as many families as possible to make decisions without having had an opportunity to meet new potential coaches and teammates. Really poor leadership by the DOC�s and league commissioners in this state.

Yeah, take an individuals right to choose the club that they want to participate in away from them.

Great idea. Exactly what WYS is all about.

Nor Cal seems to be run by relatively responsible grownups too. Deferred movement until people can actually interact with one another in person, and kept clubs from engaging in manipulative and misleading behavior when people are stuck in their homes and dealing with extraordinary stress in all aspects of their economic and personal lives. Here�s what they put out on tryouts:

The Tryout Window has been postponed. New tentative dates for the 2020 Tryout Window are June 6 � June 26

From now until the Tryout Window opens, existing NorCal rules regarding tryouts and recruiting still apply to all clubs:
Adult members of NorCal clubs may not initiate contact, for recruiting purposes, with any player registered in another NorCal club
Contact, for recruiting purposes, with a player registered in another NorCal club requires that the player be released, or written permission from the player�s DOC (Clubs are permitted to send generic information on tryouts to players who have contacted them)
