    Tryouts

I’ve noticed that some of the tryouts overlap from the different clubs, is that done intentionally? So that the player has to choose the club they want to play for ahead of time?

yes it's to maintain the regional monopolies of clubs, and make it harder for families to research other clubs. the week before tryouts is open week and you should reach out to other clubs.coaches you are interested in so you can come train with them during the week.

So basically do not send your kid for tryouts unless you are sure they will be placed on the team?

By the end of day one kids will probably be on the field for the team they will make. If it's not the coach or team your interested in, I would use day 2 to tryout at your back up. By going to sessions during open week you should already have a pretty good idea if your kid would make the team.

You should be reaching out to coaches now.. not a week before tryouts. Kids will be going to check out teams practices that week before tryouts, or sooner.

Ah ok. So both days are not required in order to be placed? We’ve got one sure thing and one long shot. I hadn’t considered only day 2 for the longshot. Thx

yeah the week before tryouts in RCL you don't have to get a release to go to another clubs training session.

That‘s incorrect. That rule does not exist.

Aren’t most teams in middle of training for state championships in the weeks leading up to tryouts though? Doesn’t seem like best time to have extra players at a practice to take away focus.

It’s either a rule or an understanding between clubs. Has been that way forever

Yes and it should definitely be that way. Rotten that most clubs think they should be entitled to our kids in that way, especially if the fit between player and coach has been questionable or worse. It should be viewed as a free market every year. Do a great job coaching and the player will be eager to stay. Not doing a great job coaching? Natural the player and family would want to seek something better. The current system allows for coaches to get comfortable with being less than their best which is a total contradiction of what they expect from the players.

It is a rule, easily found on the RCL website.

Thank you. Love the idiots on here who just offer uneducated opinions as fact. Likely a crossfire parent making up sh:t as usual.

One of the great scams of RCL. If you have a B team player looking to play ECNL, you might want to have your player tryout for a different club's ECNL team before returning to your existing club for RCL tryouts. The clubs will give outside players a much closer look at ECNL tryouts than their own B team players (which they have already judged and you'd probably know if there was a move-up possiblity).
