Ten days max before the whole thing implodes. It’s dire.

Curious but is there a public list to see who is in the portal and where players are signing? I see one for football and basketball but not a complete list for soccer.

What's dire? I imagine that the new coach will get at least two years to show improvement, assuming no misconduct or shenanigans occur.

Of course, I assume that one local youth club will rather instantly go from "we can get you a scholly at Oregon State" to "avoid OSU like the plague"

A coach of her caliber will want to do much more than “show improvement”, she’ll want to at least move up a few places from the bottom. She has her work cut out for her and needs a staff and transfers in place asap. Sitting back because you’ll get cut some slack for being new will get you nowhere away from the bottom with the new Oregon coach’s recruiting of transfers and internationals and his Nike carrots, with UW & WSU with amazing coaching staffs and pulling top players out of OSU and elsewhere, and with the stellar Stanford guy at Utah who is sure to impress. Other good Beaver players will be getting very antsy. No one wants to stay on a sinking ship. Particularly if the coach isn’t doing anything because they are personally safe for a couple years.

Certainly, she's got her work cut out for her. And certainly, she needs to hit the ground running--she will get some slack, and the fact that her hire is so close to signing day for soccer (meaning she might lose some of MK's recruits and not have much ability to find her own prior to the start of the upcoming season) might buy her a bit more time.

But the OSU athletic department has been down this road before. When the women's basketball program hired Scott Rueck following the disastrous tenure of LaVonda Wagner, half the players quit the team, and Rueck in his first season actually had to conduct open tryouts to fill out the roster, something virtually unheard of in Division I sports.

Six years later, the Lady Beavers were in the Final Four. (Of course, the Ducks went and stole his top assistant, who was instrumental in his recruiting success, and now we have two elite women's basketball programs in the state).

But this sort of sniping sounds a bit like a sacked former assistant, or one of his toadies, trying to shank the new sheriff in town....

Need more urgency. Five days and there best be action or the it will hit the fan. I’m not kidding. This is serious. What are we waiting for??

Don’t worry. She is getting her new staff and transfers right now. Both will be critical for success down the road.

I am sorry, did I miss earlier in this discussion that for sure Kevin Legg is for sure let go as assistant coach?

Man all this misery being put forth at OSU!!! Last year they beat Stanford, Tied Cal, took UCLA to double overtime, beat Utah, Colorado and competed well with all but UW. At seasons end they got rid of a coach who was a friggin anchor, yet another win for the program.

Losing two great players hurts. But good things are coming for this group. Go Beavs and great job girls!!!

Why would those impact players leave, if it is so great there? Also, the last coach is the one who took them to new heights his first year and then they fell again last year after the great female assistant coach left to take the head job at UNLV. Weren’t they the very bottom of the pac last year? The two who left were the reason for most of the success. New coach needs a female assistant coach and to hit the transfer portal fast. Oregon is picking up transfers and internationals right and left. The pac is no joke.

One is a senior, who likely might not want to stick around for a rebuild, and may have liked the old coach (she is going to WSU, where MK has been hired as an assistant).

                        Dunno about the other.

New coach is a woman. KL is still listed as an assistant coach, interestingly enough

New heights? The pac 12 records for both of Kagan’s years were similar. Big difference was out of league games. 2019 was a very soft pre-season schedule (set by Rhoads) and OSU won the pre season games, which they should have. 2020 only had two pre-season and UofP is a strong non-league opponent. Losing the assistant to UNLV was a big loss.

Yes I saw that. But does ANYONE know if Kevin Legg is staying as assistant coach or getting the boot? Everyone keeps talking about on this discussion an “all woman staff”, but clearly Kevin is not a woman. Anyone know?

In all seriousness why would anyone care other than his family? It's a 2nd assistant job at the embedded conference doormat program. Find another topic clown.

Maybe the former female assistant was the main driver for success. Once she left, back downhill and team culture problems. She was also a person of color, which apparently, is sorely needed at OSU. KL is a good man but at the expense of the team, he will favor his family like recruits who he has known and coached since childhood. A recipe for disaster for the team that has already struggled with culture. Maybe that’s why the two top players left.
