Dear The Price is Right audience member, yes we all know the going rate for Ice time per hour.
You may want to explore the concept of analogous reasoning, until then stay seated and do not come on down....

Example 'A'- Paying $200 for only 5 minutes of on the ice practice time for Tanya. (With the knowledge the established rate at 5am in the morning being $200 for the entire hour)

    vs.

Example 'B' Paying thousands upon thousands of dollars for coast to coast air travel + destination lodging, meals & ground transportation for entire an team consisting of players, coaches & parents.
Once you arrive 3 time zones ahead on the opposite coast you get to play truncated matches vs a recreational level team(s) with a verified score line of 9-0.in your favor.

Example A as stated in a prior post-- would of course be considered the intelligent purchase between the 2 horrific & laughable examples described.

While I know nothing about the economics of competitive figure skating, why would someone rent a rink for $200 for an hour, only to skate for 5 minutes? Is it because they are sharing the ice with someone else (say, other members of a skating club who are there training at the same time, along with a coach)? Shouldn't the $200 figure then be divvied up among all the participants?

      Still bloody expensive, but c'mon.

This thread is so lame. People trying to win the internet war named "EAL". If any person has the will to read the past 19 pages they are a better man than me. What a waste of time you all are.

Imagine if you had just an ounce of intelligence. You wouldn't feel the need to defend your clueless club choices of nationwide rec travel and chase after ghosts on this forum of the foolish. Find a professional club perhaps or continue in your theater of the absurd junkets.

Imagine being a highly intelligent and successful man who spends time on an internet message board trying to discredit local soccer clubs who decided to expand the opponent base by joining a league outside of USYS. Because, most highly successful men whom are intelligent would in fact take their time to do this. Not.

If you were in fact a real man you would not behave the way you have here. But, here you are, lurking in the background ready to stomp on the EAL thread of the century. Go get them tiger. You're a beast.

This is what I don’t get. Who cares what other families and kids are spending their money on and doing? If you don’t like it then don’t participate and move on. The amount of effort put forth to discredit a bunch of kids playing soccer is stunning. I think it’s insane to drive a $80k car but I’m not stalking around the Lexus forums telling them they got tricked into buying an expensive Toyota. Have a Rolex? What a bunch of idiots, an iWatch is more accurate and does so many more things. Get a life. Mic drop.

Some of us despair at the travel-soccer arms race, of which EAL is merely a symptom, not the cause.

But youth soccer would be a much better product overall, and much more accessible, if playing on the top tier of teams didn't involve a boatload of travel. And it seems to be getting worse.

The problem with this is that there are typically 2-4 teams that are competitive with each other at any given age in Oregon. If we had a robust amount of high quality teams I would whole heartedly agree. But we do not. Oregon soccer has many flaws and too many stakeholders with each having their own goals that typically do not align with building a successful system that enhances competitive development.

The idea of the EAL is great. Execution during it's first year in the PNW is OK. What would make the EAL better is if it was cross platform allowing top ECNL and USYS teams to play each other throughout the year as team vs team format with regional and national competitions. Likewise, it would need to be a true overlay to OYSA so that clubs would not choose to miss the spring season. As it is the first year I have personally gave it a pass with the hope that there will be higher quality in the future by adding more clubs and having higher standards.

Is your concern that the "2-4 competitive teams at a given age" are spending their time pasting palookas, and should instead be looking elsewhere for a quality match? Perhaps, and things like ECNL and USYS National League can serve that niche, but EAL is just more palookas. The best club in EAL NW division (boys) is uPDX, and it isn't close.

Of course, it depends on the age group. In some age groups (09, 04) there's a clear alpha who beats everyone else in the state. In others (05 boys) there's about six teams who could conceivably win State Cup, and the number of local competitive matches in OYSA league is high.

Would be nice if OR and WA had the same HS season for boys, because our little corner of the country is so far from everywhere else, that any travel outside the Pac Northwest effectively requires an airplane.

The discredit was self inflicted by soccer bums, who forgot they serve their members/membership and a BOD--outlined in the bylaws of their mission based non-profit community clubs.

These costly EAL travel errors are not iunexpected outcomes when leadership and oversight are non exssistent.

You have to realize even Cults get push back for insane membership requirements from fanatical leaders.

                                Deal with it snowy.
