I have worked with three coaches on OYSA travel teams that worked hard and got a lot, if not all, of their girls soccer scholarships. Players that had the tools went to top level soccer schools and got a lot of money, some when to middle tier and some went to private small schools. The coach needs to develop the relationships with coaches and be honest, but that is a lot better than getting to see a girl in two games at a showcase. The coach can talk about work ethic, attitude, effort..etc. which are really important in college.

A very deserving player got an offer from a good D1 school sight unseen, solely based on the word of coach simply based on track record of the OYSA coach in sending previous players.

        doubtful...sight unseen.

also name these miracle working coaches that get it done. All i ever see is these foreign coaches getting top gigs and you want me to believe they have these relationships built up.

Just asking for one name since you know many.....

Who lied to you? People transfer for 100 reasons. I respect someone willing to go somewhere they will surely impact then stick around to not play. Certainly not kicked off of anywhere.

This past year Salem had double digit commit numbers with stronger soccer schools overall than fc portland. This isn’t new news..every year from as far as my oldest daughter on the 00s the best players overall regardless of where they play go to the same schools everyone else is. The kids that go to the top soccer schools have a higher chance of dying from Covid then actually starting and playing there. This is fact. No OSU doesn’t count as a top soccer school.

The best teams and coaches get the majority of their players into college if that’s what the player wants. Be weary of the clubs that say it’s abcd league to get to college but only half of their players get into college and the other half dont play anymore or left.

Westside Vancouver CU all put out decent numbers into college with clubs like Eastside Salem thorns and fc portland doing sporadic numbers and it’s hard to tell who in the past 3 years even was developed by the thorns or just claimed them.they have some of 3-4 kids last year that they claimed as committs. numbers don’t always add up.

By the way, no one remembers these kids when they leave to college except for the great ones and they are usually flamed on here because of the disappointment they gave to other parents from other teams. It will shock the hell out of you senior year when some kid from Club promoting a abcd league can’t get into a decent college team while random kids from Eastside are going d1 in California.

College coaches find players and they will search the depths of everywhere to find the good ones.

The league or branding don't matter. The coach, a rigorous training plan and a lot of quality travel is all you need. You can get that in a lot of places.

I call BS. No D1 coach worth anything is going to offer one of their spots to an incoming freshman “sight unseen” you can’t be that stupid, but maybe you are

It absolutely happened to my own daughter. The coach never saw her play. Offered her a preferred walk on before he even saw her live or on film based on the word of her coach who he knows well. Eventually saw tape and did see her play for about 30 mins in a scrimmage.

OSU might not be a top program but they did better than UO last year and is a rising program that recruits lots of local players. Looks like UO is encouraging local recruits to transfer and hasn’t recruited any locals for 2021, while OSU has 3 or 4 local 2021s already and took a bunch of locals late last year. For the sake of Oregon players, hope OSU continues to rise and UO decides a couple local players a year is good for business.

Thanks for clarifying as I thought you meant offered a scholarship vs a walk on position. Coach has nothing to lose when they handout walk on spots

Since D1 has 14 full scholarships to dole out, there is absolutely no reason why each of those schools shouldn't use 1 of those and giving 4 girls 25% each.....shoot, how about 8 girls sharing 2. They already are getting in state tuition.

You would be surprised how little local girls get to attend the state schools. Some just take book money to say they got a scholarship and are actually on the roster. Nothing wrong with that.

8 might be a bit much but 2-4 per year sounds right. Don’t even need to give much like you said since in state tuition is so cheap. 2-4 locals a year with books-25% or even walk on seems right for Oregon public schools. OSU is doing it and moved up 100 spots in the rankings. Way to represent!

That says all we need to know about the school your DD went to than. No quality coach or school will offer a spot without seeing the player period.
