Both clubs have shared one field for years at THPRD for a few decades, though.

USA hosted the world cup in 1994 with that said WSM & THUSC were both formed prior to the WC94 but were never the same club.

With over half of THUSC moving on to Bird or is it Bridge City last year any venom left at modern day THUSC is aimed at the ladies who stole 1/2 of their club.

There is nothing fierce left at THUSC these days.

True. THUSC parents broke away from the club and started Westside Metros. A THUSC treasurer told me to send my daughter to Westside tryouts, and said she was telling other parents the same thing. Yes. THUSC and the new Westside club share fields.

Title IX created this enviroment in the club scene it's trickled in to the outpost called Oregon--imagine if parents realized this & understood that year round club team travel doesn't change any outcomes for even one Oregonian. Especially with the abundant funding for girls college programs & the low interest from girls nationwide who are interested in participating in college soccer

Merging enough brain power to stop the Oregon crazy train of travel would be a great start.

No Oregon club coach or club for that matter is landing girls at any Top D1 school with athletic aid. This reality has nothing to do with a club coach's connections or sales pitch & everything to do with the 'talent' pool and DNA in available in these parts.

A league gives clubs a platform/structure to play in be it OSAA, USYS, US Club or Kids Sports YMCA.

Specific areas of this great country (SoCal, Texas, Florida, Ohio, NJ, & Ill.) develop and maintain a 'reputation' for club, player & coach quality that is unmatched.

Oregon's club reputation for Girls soccer talent is based on decades of nothing to write home about. Unless you mention University of Portland Women's Soccer or the NWSL Portland Thorns both National Champion outfits.

This insanity must stop.

Thorns yes but is UoP still a top program. Seems like it has gone the way of FCP after Clive.

Well, the Portland area did produce Tiffany Milbrett.

But her career was back in the dark ages, and she played for boys' teams. Since then, the metro area hasn't produced another like her. Ignoring Olivia Moultrie, who is a SoCal product who is up here playing with the Thorns (and training with the first team, I believe, rather than messing around with the Westside-run Thorns-branded ECNL operation), there aren't any in the pipeline that I'm aware of.

Could we? Lightning can always strike, of course. But if steel sharpens steel... well, there isn't much steel around here. (And no, the ECNL clubs, no matter how much they might try and consolidate talent, are still big piles of clay).

There are a handful of quality players in the area that have potential, yet no true or clear development path, coaches and or clubs that have a real interest in developing, pushing, and promoting those select players to the next level.
The kids with talent and the means often go elsewhere, like Seattle and or Europe to get what they need.

Yet we have hundreds of kids from Oregon on college teams across the country. For the size of our population, we do pretty good.

I am all for holding our systems to higher standards. Saying what we are doing is not good enough is a good mechanism for getting improvements. Just like being a driven athlete, you always should be improving.

There are some good coaches who are doing good things with players and have in the past in Oregon.

Having interested student athletes with the ability to pay for college makes it possible for hundreds of kids to join college teams for girls. We have no elite players unfortunately.

The fact that we aren't putting kids on the national team every year means Oregon stinks!

Granted there are 5+ million kids playing soccer in the US and about 150 slots on the national team camps. We should still be putting 5-6 kids on the national team every year in Oregon.

Failure on a epic level. This is not about happy kids or happy families. This is about the failure of Oregon to produce elite players.

-Oregon Stinks in Girls Soccer is a legacy or tradition, not quite a revelation.

-Oregon doesn't even have 5 or 6 girls in the history of the state that have ever made the USWNT even for a cup of coffee.

You should have your fat little kid do gymnastics, basket ball, lacrosse, or softball than.... oh wait, they travel as much or more. But ECNL is a scammmmm!!:(((
